I have accepted Craebild's offer to host the game. Please have your race designs ready to send him by Friday the 23rd. We'll take up to 8 players, so you can join us Whitewolf. If anyone else wants to join, make a race and send it to Craebild, we're not going to take more than 8 players, but most likely a few people will miss the deadline, and if they do you're in.

So the other 'big fish' is anonymous? How peculiar. The usual reason people seem to give for using pseudonyms is so people don't treat them like they will be a monster Silly hair

The player will reveal himself when the game starts. I do not know his reasons, I am assuming either an old friend or foe of yours, but that is just a guess on my part.

I have received one race file so far, and that reminds me that I will need the following from each player:

Name or alias. This is what should be written on the game page on Autohost - The anonymous monster can of course have Anonymous as alias, I can then change it when that player feels like revealing his/her real name.

e-mail address. That is so Autohost can e-mail you your turn, and so I can send any messages I might need to send.

Race file.

Race file password.

You can send the race files and information through private messaging here at Autohost or by e-mail, my e-mail is craebild@parknet.dk

I have received 7 race files so far, so there is still one race file missing.

Further, one of the race files I received was corrupt (I have sent an e-mail to that player about it).

I have a question about the game setup, though. Should I ask Ron to set up a game forum for this game ?

Craebild, a game forum would be a nice place for us newbies to ask questions, where everyone can see the replies.

Give the player with the corrupt files a chance to resend to you. If the 8th player submits by then, let him in, if not please start with 7 plyers.

Thanks,

Conrad

The problem with the corrupt file apparently was that that player was using the I patch, and games on Autohost require the JRC3 or JRC4 patch.

I am afraid it would not be reasonable to generate the game without the missing race, as the missing race in one of the two big fish. With only one big fish, there would not be the competition between the two big fish, so there would not be much incentive for the big fish to help the minnows.

I have compiled a summary of the rules for this game, with a few comments of my own.

The players are two experienced players, each playing a CA race with centered hab (the "Big Fish"), and 6 beginners playing races that are not CA (the "Minnows"). The big fish will be close together in the center, while the minnows will be evenly distributed around them.

The big fish cannot ally or cooperate with each other, but can make any arrangements they wish with the minnows.

The minnows can freely make any arrangements the wish with each other and with the big fish.

The universe definition is:

Small packed galaxy.
Accelerated start.
No public scores until turn 60. This is done by setting the in-game winning condition to highest score after 60 years - While that will make the game declare a winner in 2460, that player has not won the game unless the winning conditions below have been met.

Winning conditions:

Big fish: Exceed next players score by 50% after 60 turns
Minnow: Get into 1st place score after 60 turns.

Turn generation will be M/T/W/T/F, with a drop to M/W/F when necessary (I know, Traveller said this will happen in 2425, but I do not think that will be necessary that soon).

One thing Traveller did not mention: Standard Cheats Disclaimer should be assumed to be in effect.

Special effect from moving homeworlds: When you give orders to your ships in 2400, they will show incorrect information on travel time and fuel expenditure. This is because the travel time and fuel expenditure is calculated from the coordinates your homworld was moved from, rather than the current position of your homeworld, and the actual travel time and fuel expenditure will be calculated from the current position of your homeworld when your ships travel.

Oh, just an addition to that rules summary... The two big fish were obliged to have TT as well as CA.

Three weeks now... Kinda wondering what we are waiting on. My gut feel is to withdraw a this point, but I'll wait until I hear what is going on - long delays without any explanation (even before the game) don't bode well for game continuity.

I emailed craebild week ago to ask him what the status of the game is, and have not had a response so far. I know he's had all 8 race files for a while now. I hope he's ok, and that no real life drama has befallen him.

I am sorry I have not responded before now, but I have been rather busy. Some RL matters got in the way, including some unexpected ones.

I should have the game up as soon as possible, but it is a time consuming task to set up a game where the homeworlds have to be moved to reasonably specific locations, as there are no tools that will move a homeworld in the east-west direction (except by tiny amounts), they can only move a homeworld in the north-south direction. This is because the information on the planets in Stars! is stored in a numbered array according to position from west to east, so if you try to alter the order of the planets, then things get messed up

The fact that homeworlds (or other worlds for that matter) cannot be moved in the east-west direction obviously means that it is necessary to generate a new game, check the east-west positions against the desired pattern, and then repeat until the desired pattern is matched. In one of the Wheel of Life games I hosted, it took a total work time of 18 hours (that was of course not in one stretch, that was over a period of 4 days).

What's the state of play on this? Confused

If the setup isn't already done, then I'm withdrawing, sorry. Sad

I've got an overseas trip coming up and it's going to disrupt me in a critical part of the game. I'd been expecting the timing of the trip to hit a lot later in the game, when it would've been less disruptive to my play. Doubt I'd miss many turns (if any) but I wouldn't have time for the heavy MM I expect to need in that period (and the trip is long enough that a game hold would be too long.)

Sorry to hear that Dog, I hope you have a nice trip.

You can close this thread guys.

I'll host my own beginers game soon since there seems to be a lot of interest but no games starting.
