It takes an obscence amount of resources to build, has an insane tech requirement of bio 21, and only has a power of 60...even if you are "lucky" and get it really early on in a MT trade, by the time you can build the thing you can build far better torps and missles.

It is pretty useless but can be used in particular spots. The main thing about it is it doesn't cost ironium unlike real missiles. You can make decent chaff shredders with them and they have some punch in bulk.

Having said that, I have never built them for anything other than novelty.

Total Terraforming races benifit more than others from the anti matter torp. TT races wil have researched the bio. In the late game, the anti matter torp is the best chaff shredder since it does so from distance, has high accuracy and has low iron cost. I would build cheap destroyers using it as my main chaff shredder.

Do not underestimate the value of a destroyer with missiles and computers. They are very cheap to build, gateable and in numbers can easily take on fully armed starbases with chaff support and can easily kill battleships in mid game.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

For pure chaff shredding, I'd stick them on a nubian (you should have nubians by the time you have bio 21 for the AMT). And probably 1 stack shields (probably not CPS, top shields cost a fair amount), add a stack of BCs (not nexi, again top computers are fairly expensive) if you want them to keep being useful in the battle after the chaff is gone.

On a DD you have 1 computer for 3 torps, on a nubian, that one computer will help maybe 30 torps.

However, the DD is going to be more flexible, and cheaper, therefore expendable.

Cost:
The AMT is 2 times more expensive resource-wise and deals 5 times less damage than Omega Torpedo.
OTOH AMT costs 20 times less ironiums and germaniums (1g+2i versus 12g+52i) its range is 6 and it is 3 times lighter.

Design:
Omega nubians are usually made like 6-9 Omegas per ship to keep weight sanely (over)gateable, that leaves way too lot of slots for defensive gadgets. 21 AMT missile ship is bit lighter, costs twice more resources and twice less minerals and has just enough slots to make more balanced design. Wink

~70 such AMT nubians stacked destroy ~7 AMP nubians per shot and ~14 when shields are down ... so it can be considered to have about 40% of AMP and 60% of Omega nubians firepower.

Conclusion:
If you somewhere make mineral alchemy for minerals (1g+1i for 100 resources) then AMT is better target for what to make that mineral alchemy than Omega, missiles own resource cost (18 resources for omega 40 for AMT) is only fraction of the price really paid there. Nod But it is once in a life-time event to be in such a game where ships are built from mineral alchemy minerals and it is still not clear who won it. Very Happy
