Scrapping MT ships...why does it not give you the parts?

I dont get it, why is it if i scrap a MT ship i dont have a chance of gaining knowledge about the components it carries?

You do get a chance. That chance is extremely low (less than 1% per item, I believe). I believe a ship with 25 of the same MT component gives you about a 12.5% chance of getting the item.

Also, I think you can only get the part if you don't get a tech level. So you have to have all the levels for every part in the ship if you don't want that probability to interfere with the lower probability of getting the part.

Trading Mystery Trader Parts

* Mystery Trader Parts can only be traded via scrapping or via battle and not through invasion.
* The chance of getting a part is based on the number of MT items in the whole fleet (upto 25 items per event).
* As with trading tech levels there is 50% chance of not getting an MT part per event.
* After the above check, there is a 1% chance per MT item present of gaining the design.
* The total chance per event with the max 25 items is 12.5% (50% x 25%)
* This is the one instance where having multiple copies of a component on a single scrapper is advantageous.

You can't build a ship using a MT part until you have all the required techs. I'm not sure if you can acquire a future part by scrapping.

Come to think of it, I'm also not sure if the MT will give you a part you don't have the tech for. Anyone know?

You can acquire a part by scrapping w/o the requisite tech. The problem is that if you gain a tech level, you will not get the part and the tech gain is much more likely, so you will usually end up getting tech levels until you reach the required tech and then get the part.

MT doesn't care what tech you have. It will happily give you a part you won't build for another 50 years.

I think you would get it by scrapping ... once you don't get the higher tech you have the extra chance of the item, but never tested this myself.

The MT will *always* give you an item you don't have the tech for. Wink

And if not than it's a worthless item. Smile

All kidding aside: you can get any item no matter what your tech levels are, of that I'm sure.
