Hello,

I know there are a few great tools/addons around for stars. But what I'm looking for, is something like information trader, but where you would be able to actually integrate the shared scanner data into your own history file.
Don't know if that exists, but if it does, could someone point me to it, please?

Thanks a lot
T'Gellan

I don't recall any tool for merging history data anywhere. For planetary scan info you can simply trade report files provided you nave the option NewReports=1 turned on in the Stars.ini file. This will provide you a deliminated text file that can be loaded in any spredsheet (like Excel) quite nicely. Full planetary data will be presented.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

Wumpus was making one such tool but it made some new cheats and/or crashes possible and so he possibly never publishes it.

Notebook will merge the planetary data.

I use it to merge .p# files and then save all the merged data to a new file that I then import into Excel. To save all the data into one file you need to use the view planets option of notebook. Then just follow your nose.

You should be able to do mess with it quite nicely from there.

Personally, I've cannibalised the habitability spreadsheet from Steve Posey's Stars Calculator Excel Workbook so it runs through all the combined planetary data (including that from the .map file) to determine the habitability value of each planet for me and and my allies based on our respective habitation requirements and current terraforming ability. From this it assigns each planet to the race it is best for (and next best for) along with its distance away from your HW in terms of number of turns travel at W9. It's ugly. But it works.

Goober.

Goober - if you'd provide a link to download your modified excel workbook it may be helpful to others. While you're at it, if you have a copy of Poseys workbook, I could use a copy - you can
mail it to me (whsmith at welho com) if you would be so kind.

IIRC LEit made it public after the EA vs IRC game ended ... but link seems to be dead now ...

Did not know there were cheats possible ... never got around to trying it ...

I have never seen the tool. What Wumpus said was that it (or its code) can be misused. Worst about it is that it cannot be detected if someone has stolen information that he should not have.
For detectable cheats he was also making some prechecker for Autohost to detect the most ugly stars files cheats (spells like "fill cargo", "summon", "upgrade" and "teleport").

I made public a utility to merge and extract data from .f and .p files, not .h files. I can send it in a day or two, I have to locate it first.

Posey's workbook sent.

Alas, unable to provide link to cannibalised spreadsheet. Also, what I have is very ugly as I said. I would need to include some instructions in the spreadsheet on how to set it up and use it for a particular game as well as providing a clean copy without all the data for my current game in Smile . If someone has a particular interest in taking a look I can mail them a copy.

Ah ... I remember seeing a program called combine.exe ... thought that was the one to merge .h files ... well, that was 2 years ago <g> so ...

While you're at it, you could perhaps add a calculation for "best mining ratio" for the races involved, since overall mineral output is important for some races/teams, too. Cool

Yeah, Combine.exe is my program to combine the .f and .p files from the team to make one report. I found it (source code too) and am willing to send it to anyone who wants it.

I couldn't believe it'd been two years, but the file dates agree... Where does the time go?

Can you add it (and source) to stars utilities project?
I mean: http://sourceforge.net/projects/stars-util/
