I wonder if maybe the remote mining at AR worlds is handled all at once, at the point before production when mining normally occurs. Whereas at non-AR worlds it would be handled with the other WP1 orders (but doesn't, as there is no WP1 mining.)

I guess a good way to test this hypothesis would be to move some AR miners in for WP1 mining at an AR world, while also moving in a combat fleet with unarmed/unarmed battle orders to destroy them without destroying the (slightly) armed starbase... If the mining takes place, then I guessed right. If it doesn't, then I guessed wrong...

Now, just got to find time to test this....

I was thinking along these lines as well ... remote mining on an inhabited planet (only AR can do this) happens at the same time as the regular mining (mines on the surface or for AR pop from orbit), hence before production in the SOoE ...

I had a look at the SOoE:
"11. Mining. Including AR remote mining of colonized worlds." That's only for AR, and only for worlds that the AR has colonized ...
So the remote mining on *uninhabited* planets is not listed, it has to happen somewhere after production.

AR WP1 remote mining happens after movement and before production, so it happens along with regular mining. This is because I used to be in a game where I would gate in a mining fleet to a mineral-poor planet, the mining fleet would mine, and then the minerals that were mined would be used to produce a starbase upgrade (one that would not have been possible without the arrival-mining) which would then participate in the battle that was to occur that turn. So not only did the miners mine before the battle, they contributed to the starbase that participated in that battle. Smile

Hmm let me test...
remote mining on *uninhabited* happens after 17. battle so dead miner does not mine. Very Happy
remote mining on *uninhabited* also happens after 19. bombing (so bombed to empty planet does not guard against remote mining). Nod
remote mining on *uninhabited* also happens before 21. WP1 colonization (freshly colonized planet doesnot block against remote mining).

Remote mining versus 20. WP1 cargo drop is only thing i cant find good idea how to test. Rolling Eyes However ... 19<x<21 is narrow enough range to insert it into SOoE. Cool

So, what we need in the OOE is AR WP1 remote mining entries for colonized and and uninhabited planets.

AR remote mining for colonized planets is already listed as "11. Mining. Including AR remote mining of colonized worlds." It does not check if ships have moved.

Remote mining at uninhabited planets same for all (including AR) is missing from OoE that happens after bombing and before WP1 colonization. Only ships that have not moved this turn mine.

OK understood,

What we have is kind of like the SD minelaying. In the case of SD, the ships lay mines the same turn they move. In the case of AR, the ships remote mine the same turn they move.

Except the AR mine on arrival only works at starbases, unlike SD lay on arrival.

All AR planets have orbitals...... I suspect that it probably works at all AR planets.

Right, close enough. Remote mining is set at 20.
I changed the AR remote mining at 11. to *waypoint 1* mining. Maybe the new "20. Remote mining" has to be *waypoint 0* mining since other races don't have WP1 mining ...
Hm, might be a bit confusing thinking AR would mine a second time WP0 at 20. <g>

Makes me wonder, does this mean that you can't kill AR miners *before they mine*? I mean the ones already present and not arriving that turn? Do the miners already present mine at 11. or at 20.? (I assume both at 11.)

Smile Maybe remote mining is neither WP1 or WP0 ... or all remote mining is WP1. At AR colonized world the miners may (but its not neccessary to) move same turn they mine. At uninhabited places they may not move to mine.

Yes, AR colony remote mining can not be prevented (movement simply does not matter). If AR needs urgent minerals (like for upgrade or packet) then may gate in the miners and very same turn build from mined minerals. Wink
