Hi im new around here and just have a question.

A game where the object isn't to win, but to just play... Has this been done?

I would like to play a game where diplomacy, debate, trade, are as much a part of the game as all out war is.

Basicly a game where you play not to beat the snot out of everyone else, but to play as if you were an actual race trying to survive.

Is anyone interested in playing a game of this type?

in my experience, diplomacy and trading are as, if not more, important than warring when it comes to winning. They certainly take longer to do.

Every so often there's a game with special nonzero-sum victory conditions. Keep an eye out. Maybe sometime I'll host one; I have some ideas in that vein.

Perhaps an RPG Stars! game is needed for this? say set 3 'player types' for the players to choose from and a min player limit of 12 players.

4 of the players can choose an evil alingment and may war each other or any player of a good alingment. May trade with any other evil or nuetral race. 2 evil races may form and alliance.

4 of the players can shoose to be a nuetral alingment. These players cant war anyone else they are declared upon by another race. May trade with anyone reguardless of alingment. All nuetrals will be considered allied for defence to avoid them being killed off early in the game.

4 players may choose a good alingment. Can not war another good alinged player but may war an evil player. No tech trade with evil races. 2 Good players may form an alliance.

Additional rules would be:

-Nuetrals may not deploy minefeilds else they are attacked
-If all the good races are defeated the evil races may attack nuetral races (but remember all nuetrals are considered allied for defence)
-If all evil races are eliminated then 10 more yrs will be generated and the winner determined by economic power (production points not score)
-Evil may have 1/4 hab
-Good may have 1/4 hab
-Nuetral may have 1/6 hab

if there is alot of interest in the game idea perhaps ill set a game up like this in a couple weeks after i move Smile

I like your idea Xardre.

It made me think of another idea that is somewhat similar.

Prequests for this game would be
-12 players min
-4 predefinded races

How the game is played:
There would be four groups, all members of a particular group share the same race.

Each group will act as one (1) empire, meaning the 3 players in each group would act as a singular race (but they would each control a section or faction of that race)

4 teams(races) - 3 members(players) on each team

Each player will make his/her own decisions, however each group would be a sort of "council" or group of leaders who make the overall objectives for their "race".

<< Think of each race spliting their space fleet operations among 3 admirials.

Ultimatly, only one race would dominate the universe, however one player may make it their goal to be the only representitive of their race to survive (thus they would make deals and barter with the enemy in an attempt to oust the other players)

<< you could also play the game where the players must work together and can only have "civil wars" on a small scale.

Communication between the players within a race should not be confined to the stars messaging system. (they could use e-mail or a chat service)

anyway, thats just an idea. Maybe it has been done before (i dont know im new around here)
