There is a FAQ link at the top right of the page that should answer most questions about how to use the software. The admin manual is much bigger Very Happy

It certainly gets my vote over the old forum!

Much nicer Ron.

Aside: What made you change off the old forum?

See this link on the old forum http://library.southern.edu/cgi-bin/general.pl?read=8038 for the main reasons.

The layout of the forum is much more eligant. Not to mention the actual seperation of topics makes navigation and finding valid information much easier.

The primary concern that I have is that the forum's reply list can get rather long and many of us know which of the posts are valid and which are not from the subject lines. (Though maybe I'm simply missing something, which is always possible).

At any rate, this was a good choice!

Thanks, I like it so far. Smile

Try the 'tree' view sometime. It shows the real tree-thread structure of the replies, with proper indentation.

They didn't seem to work on my work machine, I was going to say something, but on my home machine they worked fine! Very Happy

At the moment its not a problem as the forum isn't too busy to see where the new posts have been added, but soon Rolling Eyes

the problem ccmaster alluded to.

At work the Light bulbs didn't seem to work to show new posts in a forum, but they work fine on my home machine. It leads me to belive its probably my work setup rather than the forum though

Just thought I'd add my 2c about the forum: I've seen a lot of forums over the last few years, but I didn't like any of them half as much as the new AH forum. Besides, the StarTrek like ranking system is kind of cool!

Well done, Ron! And thanks for providing a lounge for VML.

Serves me right I only encountered the forum 3 months after it went online, due to me leaving RGCS and not playing Stars! for quite a while. Critique? Hm, let me think...

Oh yes, I'd prefer having at least a chance to become Admiral, hm, Vice Admiral at least, too Very Happy

Err yes, I have another suggestion for the very motivating ranking system. Quoting from the FAQ: "Rank is earned. Good posters will gain rank faster."

Would it be possible to have members sorted by rank, then ranks sorted by number of posts? I'd really like to see at a glance, who of the petty officers is the most "honoured".

Maybe one can do that already - if so, I'm yet to find out how. Somebody give me a hint?

So rank it's judged by providing usefull info? IOW related to the posters knowledge of Stars!? Than how come the Zoid has a high ranking?!?! Shocked (I mean anything higher than civilian) Laughing Wink
Now that is what I would call abusing of the forum mechanics! Wink Laughing

Guess he's now going to kill me in our duel for that Grin

I want to have a ratio displayed under each user's rank. It would be # of rank points divided by # of posts.

The higher the ratio, the more helpful/knowledgeable the user is.

Currently, you can click on the Members link in the upper right, and sort by # of posts. When I have the ratio code worked out, it will go there also.

Besides, as I've pointed out before, all you have to do to get great information from me is consider the viewpoint opposite of mine correct. Razz

Hmm, does the referred users statistic get deleted after some time? I remember having two referrals, now I'm left with one, but that is a different user - not that it is important, but I'm interested how the forum software works. I didn't find anything in the FAQ, btw.

Probably that user just didn't confirm his registration by going to the custom URL that the forum emailed to him. If a user fails to confirm his registration, he/she is auto deleted after a few days.
