All except discussing how to prevent being harmed by the flood of rogue serials that can be expected if those that get them for free don't give a damn about what harm they do by using them, and that is precisely the question I have been raising.

We can just sit down and watch it happen as if it were not our busines though, that is also an option.

Needless to say, in such cases I hate democracy. Not for what it was meant to be, but for what it has become.

Reason doesn't stand a chance against a majority vote, and that is called democracy nowadays. Wink Volunteers to vote for the nothing can be done option? Anyone? ROFLMAO

Now, now,
Let's not discuss politics in the Stars forum. Democracy has its virtues as do all political systems. A wise man once said that the best form of government was a benevolent dictatorship. As Emperor of my Stars species - I am a benevolent Emperor (by popular vote) Purple bounce New Shocked Disco L Blue bounce

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

No - there won't be any updates at all. All they can do is use the last 2.7 version available. Nobody at Empire has the source code, as far as I know, for fixing any bugs.

They could perhaps use a patching tool, if they knew what to patch, anyway. Cool

I'd vote for allowing them to link to (or print, or whatever) the Bug/cheat list, in any case. Nod

So many Stars, so few Missiles!

Yeah, yeah.
It is difficult to cut off the political aspects of the process commonly denominated democracy, but reread my statement in a more benevolent way and put the accent on sociological and psychological aspects of mass behaviour. Whenever the mayority decides, most of the time it democratically decides to do nothing, to let things be. That is why I mentioned the term in this context ... as laughable.

If you want anything really done, be it in Stars! or in RDL ... you have no other option but to push for it against mayority ... and be perceived as an dictator, benevolent or not, as you put it.

Might be a very useful diplomatic tool: Whenever you are discussing any treaty and you do not like any particular proposal, ask ¿Are you sure your people voted you to ask for this?, like he would not be acting in the interest of his people.

It is very dificult to think of Stars! as an empire-building strategy game ... without politics.

Maybe we should not talk RDL politics, but why not politics inside Stars! or politics related to the way we behave with or towards Stars!?

Plain "No politics please", is the preferred political view of those that politically prefer to continue the status quo that is their political choice.

It seems easier to turn ones back on politics than to openly say one does not want things to change. It's more "politically correct" behaviour.

By the way Cool , surely your wise man was wise enough to say that at a moment where he could unmistakably be supposed to be the only acceptable candidate. You say so, and of course I surely will. I am undoubtedly the most benevolent dictator of my own private life. Trouble comes with accepting somebody else should be our benevolent dictator. I certainly do not accept todays democratic mayorities as candidates to this utter important post. Not the way they behave nowadays (related to Stars! only if you want to limit the scope of my statements to stay on topic). Wink

The reality as it is suggests we should accept that besides what Empire Interactive chooses to or even only can include in the new release of Stars!, we remain the only available alternative source of up to date information for Stars!

We should find out whether it is interesting for our community to contribute in sofar as possible and desirable to make this re-release as successfull as possible, whether we should or not accept to be mentioned somewhere on the release as a mayor source of information regarding Stars!, and how we are going to behave towards new hordes of players in relation to our collective wisdom when they start pouring in and asking for help.

The more we think beforehand, the less a chaos it is likely to become.

All suggestions, in any direction, welcome.

I guess all our discussions about serials are pretty moot now anyway, since some short sighted fool published a link to one. Sad

This is a bit of a long shot, but didn't there used to be a way of getting newsgroup posts cancelled? If it were removed from the archives (possibly by the initial author after explaining why he should), some damage would still have been done at the moment because people have seen it already, but anyone in future looking for a generator might not find it.

Or, even better, I wonder if the site owner where the file is being shared might be persuaded to either take it down or move it slightly.
