I am lost...
"Known bugs" topic suggests that when targeted fleet is splited, the pursuing fleet follows the fleet with the largest mass "though there may be a bug with it". Well, when this bug happens? I was just going to meet Maxi-Miners dragged by large freighters. The other player splitted fleet (transfering only Maxi-Miners to me), and my pursuing Fuel X-ports followed the Large Freighter rather than Miners... The fact is, freighter got lower ID than miners, but... well... I am lost - when which rule (mass / fleet ID) apply?

I've forgotten most of what I know about the split-fleet algorithms... However I do have some useful advice - in situations like this, where the other player wants you to meet a certain part of his fleet, then it is safer to agree on a certain location in space to meet.

The maxi-miners have very little boranium cost. Depending on the design of the ships, the large freighters may have more boranium to them. In both ships, most (if not all) of the boranium will be in the engines. The chasing fleet will go after the fleet with the highest boranium concentration.

We're talking about movement in space here, and not in battle, right?
In which case, are you sure of this? It would surprise me simply because in general, Stars! is fairly good at not showing the player information he shouldn't yet know, even indirectly. Having such a chasing behaviour implies a certain (albeit very limited) additonal knowledge is being used, even though the player may not have access to this information yet (if s/he hasn't scanned the designs yet). And by observing the chasing behaviour, the player could at least theoretically reach conclusions about relative B-costs of the designs.
How *useful* this is... is... well, probably not at all . But still, I'd be very interested if this were really the case.

The bora rule was a quick and dirty way of trying to get pursuing fleets to pick the big warships rather than the loaded freighters - thus bora rather than kt.
