Hi!
I dislike a LOT of things. The most of all:
- inability to make custom game startup in other way than actually play the game before the startup and arrange everything
- there are no clear rules descrivbed from technical point of view. IMO, all strategy games should have all technical rules described clearly - I mean description that matches to the code of game 1 to 1.
- really really bad AI
- too hard MM which I see could be improved in really many ways without breaking balaciuing or game-playing in general
- lack of in-game tools (like sharing of oplanet information etc.)

Hi!
Ptolemy wrote on Sun, 26 February 2006 18:36 | Now come on people,
This isn't a thread for Stars! bashing. It's a thread for things that make you laugh - like so!
|
Ahh, if THAT way, then I'll re-phrase things I posted
- My 5th element game startup takes 3 days to create. If make a simple built-in tool for host to allow host modify universe, player positions, starting planet population/mines/ etc., assign tech levels, create fleets and colonies etc., it would take 1 hour, or even less.
- See my thread in PP sub-forum. Getting test results like that took for me a whole 2 weekends to create at least more or less matching theory how exactly PP teraforming works. Why we should do tests like that and dig out every piece of infomration, when documentation, if mintained carefully, may give that all without any work like that?
- really really bad AI - just read several FAQ and articles about how to defeat Stars! AI. You will find there a lot of really funny things
- too hard MM which I see could be improved in really many ways without breaking balaciuing or game-playing in general. My AR tests go second month already and I see it would take almost the same to finish it. I guess after that I'll be able to do the most MM when playing blitz - will be well-trained for MM
- Recently I spent 1 & half hours to examine another player dump file and dig out what planets exactly I would like to colonize. In another game, it took several days till I got dump file with hab info (new planets report style) instead of an old-style report that contains no hab info at all. In certain cases I already would explore that space by self before I get it and get time to process it . Such way of info exchange makes alliances work hard to get good results, but that also makes alliances more tense

Hi!
Ptolemy wrote on Mon, 27 February 2006 15:47 | Thre are many utilities that were written for Stars! that do some of the things you look for. Planet Sniffer is one for checking habitable worlds. However, that is the subject for another topic so you should post a question in the Academy. I set this thread up for amusing anectdotes etc. I didn't set the thread up for discussios on mm or utilities or, for discussions of any kind for that matter.

Ptolemy, you still taking it serious? Why did not you asked then why I returned to playing Stars! if it is SOOO disliked by me?
mlaub already pointed out exactly what I meant
Really, the most amusing thing is that we still playing Stars! despite a lot of things in it are far from being well. Instead of Stars! developers, _players_ themselves create tools, algorithms, investigate exact formulas of packet teraforming etc., make custom startups like Huge remapped game, and get fun from all of that.

Hmmm... Did you try it with tri-immune AR? It would be totally amusing because not that reliable
