Man oh man. I don't think I could use any more words in the title, eh?

Anyway, here's the info on the new game. List of interested players is below that. Contact me if you have questions.

Link to file (Test.rar)

All races will start in a cluster on the north, east, south, or west sides of the universe. Players will contact people listed below and form teams. Pick a team leader and contact Xdude with the teams, and prepare your races. For ease of use, please use
the same password for each racefile on your team. Do not send the races to Xdude yet.

Version: 2.6/2.7jrc3/4
Autohost: Yes
Turns generated: 48 hours
Host is playing: Yes
Universe size: Huge Packed, Remapped to image I will provide (depends on # of players)
Starting conditions: ACC BBS NRE
Victory conditions: Last Team playing
PRTs forbidden: IT / CA / AR (Toy races are highly encouraged)
Restrictions:
- no cheats (except chaff and split-fleet dodge)
- Players MAY NOT move farther then 100 LY away from any planet. If it's more than warp 10 away, you cannot move there. (Gating is allowed). This is to prevent players from moving to the other teams clusters without moving to the center. This does NOT apply when moving from your starting cluster to the closest arm leading to the center!!
- Please work with the below listed players to develope a team and get your races ready for team play.
- Homeworlds will be moved to a player's starting cluster. Once this is achieved, the player doing the setup will set research to lowest field and queue autobuild 100 facts, 100 mines, and some max terraforming in case of comet hit.
- 50 turns will be generated and the game will start on turn 2450 (2451?)
- Design your races wisely. 50 turns of pregen is all you get to prepare yourself.

- Teams start at the outside edges on the block shaped clusters. The # of clusters depends on the # of players per team.

Players in BOLD are known to be on a team already. You may post this information to help speed the progress along. Two teams are formed, with 9 players left. It would kick arse to have 5 teams.
I am occasionally in the stars! chat room. You can also find me via AOL IM "Iamxdude" or MSN IM "mxlppxl@hotmail.com" I do not check the hotmail email too much, so post here, send an IM, or find me online.

I'll be in touch.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

Ditto. I'm 9 hours ahead of central US time and I have a wacky schedule.

Who's gonna be on my team?

GMT+11, usually working during the day but it varies - looks like that would match me up with you two... Can I get in with you guys? I can be your handicap Laughing

Sounds good Dogthinkers. I'm not sure if you'll be the handicap or I will. I haven't played a game since April.

Well, I've won most of the games I've entered, but I recently braved an 'advanced only' game and got my @$$ handed to me in short order (and worse still, displayed a couple of crippling misunderstandings of the game engine,) so I've got no idea of my level any more Laughing

Assuming Ptolemy is also happy to have me in the team, I'm hoping that teaming up with him will help develop the tactical & strategic sides to my game, as he seems to place a lot less emphasis on economy that I have needed to do so far Wink

Au contraire..
I am the ultimate believer in HP races with high growth rates. Races with excellent econ require a little less mm. I much prefer fewer planets producing higher resources. Research and mine costs are the 2 places that a well designed HP can live with since they are only paid for once.

With NRE (No Random Events) comets shouldn't be striking worlds. At least I think I understand this right.

I'm at -7 GMT if that interests anyone.

With NRE there will be NO random things - i.e. no comet strikes, no Mystery Traders and no wormholes.

For ease, let's go with 3 player teams. Easier to fill them and possibly get 5 teams instead of 4.

Hello.
Is there still a free place for another player? I'd gladly join.
I have a question about moving further than 100LY: from where is the 100LY calculated? From closest colonized planet, or just from where the fleet is at the beginning of year?

Yeah, I think this should be from the closest team planet - otherwise horrendous MM when routing long distance freighter fleets through your own space. Shocked

There's also a rather more serious limiting point to this rule, which I fear may spoil the game - it won't be necessary to defend colonies or shipping that are more than 100ly from your border. The spirit of the rule is to avoid 'arm hopping', but the rule is also preventing players from sending fleets deep into enemy territory in a more conventional sense - there are times that you have a fleet large enough to fly past the border worlds safely (and then remove minefields, force defender to make choices about which worlds to defend, harass freighters etc.) but not enough to want to actually attack the border worlds. Without this the game risks becoming even more 'largest fleet wins' than usual Confused

edit: I think I misinterpreted the rule, so this shouldn't be a problem. See following two posts for more detail

... then maybe:
"a fleet must always be no further than 100LY (or 50, or whatever distance) from closest planet"
That would mean free movement inside arms and only small allowed shortcuts at the centre and starting positions.
So, is there a free slot for me?

Yeah, that should do it. I've got a suspicion that this is actually the intent of the original rule, just slightly clarified.

I guess I may have misinterpreted the initial rule - I assumed original rule meant 100ly from friendly planet, when in fact it probably means any planet.

Starting positions (Especially if 5 teams)

Do players get to pick? Can be quite important if teams to pick exact order/spots for each member.

Are there going to be any limits on diplomacy between teams? Personally I'd like to suggest a all-enemies/no-diplomacy/no-information-sharing approach between the teams (similar to that applied in 'Twin World Wonder Two') to put a focus on teamplay within the teams rather than teamplay _between_ the teams.
