Why? OCS ships are not regulated in open space, as far as I can tell. You can sweep to your hearts content. If you catch the SD minelayers in space, you can destroy them.

Quote:

SD and mines on/near unoccupied planets....agreed potential problems....mine laying capable SHIPS will not be NOT be considered an OCS, however, detonating a minefield whose perimeter extends to an unowned planet would be a violation of the 2430 rule.

I submit that the act of laying mines over a planet you did not control the previous turn is the same as sending an OCS ship there since the field IS detonatable at ANY time.

However friendly SD may clog space around such planets with exploding minefields to share SD love.

PP not wanting to be left out will send loving mineral gifts express packet to his neighbours colony planets to help give them a boost. PP will be happy no OCS will visit his packet throwing border colonies.

Personally I am happy if PP and HE get some advantage as they otherwise would likely be unrepresented as seen too weak/hard to play.

I think it's best to usually put some restriction on CA.. Like no TT and/or a small point penalty & points set to defences. Perhaps a small JOAT penalty, like no NAS. These items go a long ways in leveling out the playing field just a little between the PRTs.

Restricting certain LRT options for certain PRTs certainly has merit as do wizard point handicaps. This is a game designed for many levels of players, a few novices may need all the help they can get. If the majority of the signed up PLAYERS wish to add restrictions of JOAT no NAS, CA no TT, I would certainly consider it. Fine tuning PRT rules will be done when the list is full.

Well, gentlemen, I was not talking about any kind of egoist fear of being crushed prematurely, I can live with that should it happen.

I was talking about the fear of any responsible newcomer (I know other categories might not care or even think this might be a reasonable concern) of spoiling the game for up to 15 fellow players if his unrated skill level ends up being too low or too high for what was really intended in the game.

Thus I was welcoming a setup in which anyone, regardless of skill level (or not knowing what skill-level label fits him suitably) could enter the game knowing that no matter what the situation ends up being, everybody can play an acceptable and enjoyable game.

If I end up near any of you in the game I might take your words and play super-chicken beggar if it diplomatically suits my needs. Rolling Eyes

I am unconcerned as to whether there are PRT restrictions or not. I have beaten monster CA's and JOATS with IT and SS races on several occasions.

The conditions seem complicated, but I´d like to join this game now that I have a serial #. It´ll be my almost first game.

I would like to play in this game as well. Even if it takes up a good portion of my next 3 years.

The game in concept is designed for 12 players such that
1&2 vs: 3&4&5&6 vs: 7&8&9&10&11&12 until it (in theory) becomes 1 vs: 2&3&4&....&12
The basis being.... Can 8 to 10 intermediate/begginers with good cooperation take out the #1 guy?

Right now we have only six signed up, I suspect a good vet can easily pick apart 5 medium level players even if they band together and fight with some cohesion.

I'm really trying to target 12 players and have little interest in kicking it off with less than 10.

Greetings;

Sign me up - I'm a decent intermediate who hasn't played in well over a year. I'm getting the bug again and ought to be able to get back up to speed well before you've got the roster filled. I should have my race designed and tested within a week and I'm guessing it will take about a month more to get enough to start.

Oh, there are still open slots? I'll try my hand at this then.

I have virtually no experience in multiplayer games (new at SAH), although I've been playing against the AI for a number of years. So I guess that makes me a beginner? Or a low-end intermediate?

Beginner. A lot of things that work well against the AI don't work very well against humans. And a few things that work well in games with humans don't work at all in games with AIs (trading and alliances).

But, if you understand the mechanics of the game from your years of AI play, I expect you will learn the rest pretty fast.

Rowenstin and C64K have signed in for the game "Usual Suspects". Are you sure you can count on them for "Variety of Experience" too?

In fact, as most messages in the thread are more than a month old, it would not be a bad idea to ask everybodies confirmation before posting any participants list. More might have deflected or got bored waiting.

Just a few my 2 cents

I'd still like to see this game happen, when the list is full I will confirm with those signed in and update list. If the list goes dormant for more than a month I'll probably request a lock, until then I'll still keep hoping to get the twelve.
