I´m definitely out. Seems that I can´t run both i and j versions in the same computer, and I´m using the i version in another, already started game.

You CAN run both versions on the same computer. A serial number that is accepted but j will be accepted by i as well. You just need to pay attention to which executable you're running. I have stars26i.exe and starsjrc4.exe both in the same directory, but with separate shortcuts. (I also have shortcuts for each game using the commandline parameters)

Don´t know if it matters, but it´s version J that doesn´t accept i serial number. And I´m afraid I lack the computer expertise needed to start toying with command lines.

You were going to kick my ass, anyway Razz

Greetings one and all!

I have received three race files so far. You can send them to me as soon as you have them ready. (Please send the race file, the race file password, and your forum name so that I can post who has sent their files in so far).

IIRC, J versions forbid the use of some pirated SN#'s.

I have done so in the past. IIRC you need to rename at least one of one of them. I believe I renamed one to starsi.exe and the other to starsj.exe and had appropriate links from my desktop. You just need to use the corect one for each game. Ofc you can use command line instructions to associate the appropriate game to the corresponding i or j exec along with the passwords to make life easier.

Let us know if it works. Tried to test it myself but am out of home country and was unable to download the i patch from starsfaq page.

Please send it to FurFuznel at:
tjl128-at-mail-dot-usask-dot-ca
(replacing -at- with @ and -dot- with . )

So far I have received race files from:
Oranges
Dexy
Icebird
Rowenstin

Everyone else wanting to play in this game should get their race files to me before the end of the year if possible.

Have a great holiday season (if this is a holiday for you) and a happy new year (if this is the start of a new year for you).

Thanks for the info: I´ve tried that, but seems that mlab is right and the J version recognizes the SN as a pirated one (wich probably is; I got the game from a friend and most likely is pirated). I keep getting the same "you´re an usurper" message.

There is only a 2.60jRC4, that means no sound and music (sound? music? is there SOUND? MUSIC? Silly hair )

As for the difference between RC3 and RC4, check:
Help -> About Stars! ...

jRC4 -> Copyright 1995-1999

jRC3 -> Copyright 1995-2000

Yes, that makes no sense! Yey

I have copy-pasted "No frills" game concept into this topic without much thinking about it Smile I'm not about to change the rules, just interested: what is so funny about Galaxy Clumping? It looks silly to me Smile

I would be fine with/like to take galaxy clumping off. I've never seen much point to it myself. Of course, that's only if everyone else agrees, because it was advertised that way.

Hi,
maybe "galaxy clumping on" is interesting if there are more than 12/14 players

Shall we turn Galaxy Clumping off?
