Hi!

I'm new here, so greets to all.

I have read about "No Frills" game somewhere here. It's classic and it filled up quite fast. I would like to propose You a copy of it. I used to play stars long time ago at a "almost newbie" level. So I would like someone else to host this game. I hope for quick start of this game, so join me, Emperors Smile

So... who is organizing this? Can they list any of the details? I would be interested in this game.

Thanks for the posts.

1.Here is "No Frills" definition by Alter Ego:

Medium
Packed
Distant

AccBBS
Galaxy Clumping

CA as PRT is banned.

PPS will be turned on in 2500.

Apart from that:
Standard cheats disclaimer.
No pre-game alliances.
One winner only.
Winner by vote (active players only).
The game will be rated at SAH.

All skill levels welcome.

No limit to the number of players. If 16 people want to play, it will be a crowded start...

Any comments to the above are welcome.

2. I propose about 4 generations per week (with emphasis on weekends), but it's open for discussion.

3. I'm eager to start as soon, as the game is filled up (may be before or during Christmas). Open for discussion once again.

4. You may say I'm organizing this, but be warned, I have no experience in organizing / hosting Stars! games Smile I will NOT host this game, so any help here is most welcome.

I quite agree for the most part.

Perhaps, in future we would change the gen times and keep the 3 turns per week...later on.

And I suspect for the big number of players... on the eve of holidays. Razz

As I am already involved in a duel and the Paranoia game, and joining the Andromeda Strained game, I will be too busy to play in this game, but if you are willing to wait until after the holidays to start the game I would be willing to host it (assuming we can get a spot on AutoHost Wink ). If you are wanting to get started before January I will not be able to assist you but I do wish all participants the very best Dueling

FurFuznel - thank you for your offer! Be sure it will be taken under serious consideration, as good host is definitely what we need Smile Further decisions will be made when more players declare their interest in this game. I mentioned i'm eager to start soon, but I see it takes a while before a game fills up, so January is possible Smile Thanks anyway.

In fact i copy-pasted info on the No Frills and as a newbie (to this community) I must say I don't know the exact meaning of "standard cheats disclaimer" Smile , so I would like to emphasize this:

As a game open for beginners ( -> ME <- Very Happy ) I propose that chaff is considered cheating.

Banning chaff opens up far more problems than I think you want to deal with (see Andromeda Strained thread); better to just read a few articles on it from StarsFaq and let it be. The best way to learn about it is to deal with it.

If the same starts in January, I'd like to play, but I'll be away for the holidays as well. I consider myself low-intermediate/high-begginer.

Sounds good to me. I should probably have eveyone send me their race files and passwords as soon as they can at:
tjl128-at-mail-dot-usask-dot-ca
(replacing -at- with @ and -dot- with .)

At the start of the new year I will submit the game to Ron to get a spot on AutoHost and then let everyone know when the game is going to start.

Have a happy holiday season, I look forward to watching/hosting this game in the new year.

Sorry, Do you mean we are to send the files now (or as soon as we can) to that e-mail, or later?

SAH uses J version, JRC4. It's near the top of the dowloads section. You could use JRC3 yourself, becuase the changes are only on the host end from JRC3 to 4.

I would prefer if you sent me the password protected race files and their passwords as soon as you are ready. That way, once the new year rolls around we will be able to get the game started right away without having to wait for any last minute race files.

As I will only be hosting this game (setting it up, and providing assistance with dispute resolution when someone accuses someone else of cheating) and not playing in it, your race files and passwords will be safe with me.

In general there is not much to add to the AutoHost FAQs. Remember to password protect your race file, make sure the racefile was generated with the version of the game you will be playing with (J patch either JRC3 or JRC4), and intend to have fun during this game.

Shadallark / FurFuznel

P.S. It is assumed that the players involved in the game will not resort to cheating to win, therefore, I do not intend to be policing for cheating. If anyone feels that someone else is cheating they can bring it to my attention and I will look into it.

It is best if you use jRC4 to play.

I've seen jRC3 turns that were not accepted by the AH game pages and labeled as corrupt ... jRC4 does more checks than the jRC3 exe. There is no way to fix the corrupt .x file (at least not that I know of), you would have to delete it and do your turn whole over again in jRC4 (or risk jRC3 again Razz ) ...
Imagine just putting 3-4h of work in that turn ... Shocked (and it was closer to 6h in the cases that I've experienced it Crying or Very Sad ) ...

As a side note: thanks to Wumpus there is race file checker and repair, see this post at the forum.
