New Game: Paranoia (All SS game)
Version: JRC3
7 to 12 players
Intermediate +
Medium, Sparse
Distant
Max Mins
STA
Acc BBS
PPS
Victory 50% of planets or unanimous vote
Game will run on Autohost.
Turn frequency 48 hours for turns 1 to 40
72 hours thereafter.

All players will be using this predefined SS race:

SS
IFE, ARM, ISB, UR, MA, BET, RS
Grav 0.75 to 2.72
Temp -112 to 32
Rad 48 to 84
1 in 16 initial hab
15% gr
1/900 col eff
10/10/10/4g facs
7/4/9 mines
Bio expensive, rest normal
6 pts to surface mins

Players will get to choose their own race name and symbol.

The idea of this game is to give everyone a race which is largely dependant on remote mining for long term survival. The fact it is also SS will allow for a lot of cat and mouse pirate activities. Various different strategies can be explored with this race given the unusual selection of LRTs everyone has.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Game will start 1 week after we have 12 confirmed players, or in early october if we don't get 12 by then.

Reply in this thread if interested.

Regards,

Nev

Yes I'm interested. This will be my first game of stars! against other people so would only join if a few others did, so I can maybe make an alliance and at least have a buddy. But yeah sure count me in.

This game is for intermediate or better players and most players who have never played against humans do not fall under this category.

I may, however, recommend the game "Overloaded". All skills are welcome there, but it can take weeks before it starts. Yes, I know it is a long wait. Or perhaps another game will be available soon.

I should warn you that whatever game (except a beginner game) you decide to join, you should be prepared not to win. Not winning is the best (only?) way to improve your skills, though.

Then again I might be wrong. You COULD be a very strong player who can beat the crap out of everyone, but the probability....

Good luck anyhow.

Skill level isn't quite so critical in this game since everyone will be using the same race, and a significant part of what separates an expert from a beginner is knowing how to build a good race design. That said, knowing how to get the most out of the race you are given is also a big factor, so you won't win this game either way as a beginner! Wink

I don't mind mixing beginners and intermediates in this game if thats what it takes to get enough players together though, so don't discount the game just yet Mike.....ultimately we are all playing to have fun, and without enough players there will be no game.

Nev

You can always throw in an advantage for beginners if you want to mix, such as access to better but still poor scanners (that can't be traded to others)

The changes from JRC3 to 4 are all on the host side, and Autohost uses 4. For the players, it doesn't matter which one you use. Unless I'm remembering incorrectly... Rolling Eyes

It very occasionally matters...because rc4 sometimes rejects rc3 .x files

Status update: we have 5 confirmed players so far. This game will start when we have 12 confirmed players, or in early October if we have less than 12 by then.

I'm someone who's played a couple of games, though they unfortunately didn't get to completion due to issues I was not responsible for (such as too many other players dropping). I have not played in quite some time though.

Being a while, I am not sure if I have correct version. Mine says 2.60j when I view the help. Would that suffice or do I need to try and patch it someplace? I realize this may be a poor place to ask but I'm a bit out of the loop.

If everything will work out correctly, I would be very interested in playing in any case.

If you doubt if you have the latest version it's best is to download 2.60jRC4 from AH download pages: http://starsautohost.org/kn2050.htm or use this direct link ...

Oh, thanks. It seemed like the files were progressing towards later versions as I went towards bottom of the page. Guess I should have looked up first. Anyways, I've updated so I will definitely be in if it is okay.

Seems a bit slow given the initial amount of MM expected.

Any skipping of turns to speed it up some?

The nature of autohost is such that the turn will generate when everyone has submitted. This means the early turns are likely to go faster than 48 hours if everyone subs early. On the other hand, if someone is having difficulties early on, I don't want to lose players by using a shorter deadline. Thats why it is set at 48 hours.

Nev

Okay the 8 players we have so far can choose a race name and symbol and email their races to me at nevarnDOTrichardATvirginDOTnet

Password your race files and make sure you include the pw so the races can be checked before we start.

In playtesting I'm finding the distribution of green worlds very uneven. Strategically I think this means a couple of things, but perhaps I've said too much. Whisper

I also playtested race and game parameters.
And i have few questions :

I agree with VonKreedon about greens.
Second thing : ARM + MA is strange combination. So id like to propose : ARM stays, MA off.
I think the points should be used to raising race growth.
Also im sure UR and BET are not good option. Better change it to Generalized Research and better hubs setting.

This game seems as very very very long to play.
So maybe check off Public Player Scores ?
No more Tips to strike Wink
