As I have already said, the ship was going to drop pop after the planet had been colonized. Turn order indicates that colonizing takes precedence over transport orders. It is for this reason that a colony ship was going to colonize it this turn, and a few moments later, the freighter right behind it was going to drop more people to flesh out the colony. Finding people from orbit, the colony ship did nothing, but the transport still beamed everyone down, resulting in a four-year penalty because the Farseers colonized deep within my space without first asking permission.

My testbeds say otherwise....

What were the exact conditions you were using?

As far as I know, the Colonisation order is executed after any pop-drop orders... so, primarily, you will get a message telling you that you can't drop colonists on an uninhabited planet without a colonisation module...

I'm intrigued, because I'd love to be able to achieve a colonise and a popdrop order in a single turn...

If colonizing and dropping both are WP1 orders (ships not in orbit but arriving next year) than the transports will find an uncolonized planet and won't drop.

However if the colonizer is already in orbit and the transports will arrive the next turn, than the colonization is WP0 and the drop WP1, IOW in this case the transports will find a colonized planet.

Yes, you are correct Storm.
For arriving ships the transfer occurs before colonisation.

I would have thought it sensible for your players to make all pop-drops WP0 and only make colonisations at WP1.
You don't lose any production by waiting till the following WP0 to manually transfer the pop.

I'm intrigued about your game.
Does this mean that if the Farseers want the planet back then they will also receive a 4 turn penalty ?
Sounds fair enough to me !

Very Happy
Well... luckily, the Farseers, at great cost, massacred the invading troops, so the planet is still under their control.

However, if the Cozy Gelpods had indeed wiped out the Farseers in residence, and taken over the planet, then the Farseers would have incurred a penalty should they have tried to retake it...

It's the wanton destruction of life, man!
Evildoers shall be punished! Wink

The nearest you can do is *merging* the pop transports with the colonizers. Wink

Not so sure about popdroppping planets just colonized by another race. It might just work. Sherlock Testbeds, anyone?

So many Stars, so few Missiles!

From memory: you can't drop on somebody that colonized WP1 the same turn. You can however have a ground battle if both of you colonize in the same turn (possibly ending up with an uncolonized world if both sides have the same strength and wipe eachother out),

The order of the turn goes like this (waypoint 0 and 1):

Manual loads/unloads (pre waypoint 0 only)
Perform drops, schedule invasions
Schedule colonizations
Resolve invasions/colonizations
Perform loads

Invasions and colonizations are resolved at the same time (depending on if the world starts out with pop or not). I've seen that when doing several of both in a turn the messages get mixed. I think invasions and colonizations are done together because they're basicly the same thing, just colonization has 0 defenders. Remeber, if multiple races colonize at the same time, they'll fight. I'm not positive, but WMs might get a bonus with dual colonization. IS will probably not get a bonus.
The split between scheduling and resolving colonizations is why you get two messages for every colonization, one when scheduling it, and a second if you take control of a world.
