Hi!
I'm not able to convince my ships to disengage after their only terget bombers/freighters are destroyed. I tried several combos, but they either don't close to make a kill, or they don't disengage and just sit there waiting to be destroyed. Am I just clumsy or that can't be done?

It is hard to do. All whats possible is done with the default orders.
"Sniper" hangs around after unarmeds are dead and activates disengage only when armor damage is done to the fleet (and that is often too late).
"Chicken" on its order starts to disengage immediately and fires fiercely at anything it reaches. However it never moves to reach the back line with its fire.

It is probably bug that fleet does not turn to disengage when running out of targets. But overall its liveable. Killing bombers, freighters & fuelers is suicide kamikadze mission. Nod

The original question was about orders that snipe AND disengage. There are no such thing as far i know.

Looks like you're right. Thank you for the answer.
Seems this "bug" is much older than I thought: I found in RGCS an article from JC from year 1997 regarding the same issue.

Now that we're back on topic Smile I thought I just mention that I've tried to get a similar result and never succeded. Being: DDs or whatever hunt down unarmed scouts but when those scouts are escorted my DDs should disengage (after hopefully killing the scout) ... always failed ... either DD disengages too early, or it does not disengage (killing the scout and than sit still while being killed) ...

Here's the closest to what you want, although your ships will disengage after 7 moves regardless of whether or not they've destroyed all bombers/freighters.

Primary Target: Bombers/Freighters
Secondary Target: None/Disengage
Tactic: Disengage
Attack Who: Enemies <or whoever you need to attack>
