Is there a problem with AutoHost right now? I cannot seem to access the game page for Survivor2 (surv2), all I get for that and for the AutoHost main page is a blank window. I can type in addresses to get to the games page, and I can view some other game pages (again, for the Together Again page, for instance), so I'm not sure if it's me or the server! Help! Embarassed

I was wondering the same thing, as I can get to Together Again but not Stars Newbie Challenge I. I think the game page typically says that Friday night is for maintenance though.

No, I think the server is frozen. Even when I load the Together Again game page, the current time that shows is 19:00, which was several hours ago. I just noticed that - I assume that it means that the server paused or was stopped when trying to gen a turn for a game.

Good point - I missed that.

How come, then, Together Again page simply has an old status, but the other pages are completely blank? I could understand the software deleting a page and then recreating it, but I don't know why a page would still exist but be blank.

Looks like the server had a reboot today. I have not heard from the admin what happened. I restored the stars.htm and index.htm from backup. The game pages will be refreshed by the SAH script.

I put all games on hold and emailed the hosts and they can take their games off of hold when they think their players have had time to upload their .x files.

Hi,

It seems most game pages are frozen. Again. Sad

For the "current" times they show, it started about 7 hours ago.

This worsening "glacial climate" is starting to make me shiver. New Shocked

The pages have thawed, as far as I can tell. At least, its showing turns, and its up to date on time.

Would anyone be able to explain what causes this to happen?

On a non-moose subject (ie On Topic! Shocked )...

I wonder if it would be possible to alter the script so that when the game pages recover from an incident like this, all games are put on hold, except the ones where all turns have been submitted?

It just saves a little time for us impatient ones when the host is unavailable for important mousework... Razz

How does putting the game on hold save time ?

Surely for incidents like this, when there has been nothing to stop players uploading, the games should just continue as they were, be that on hold, waiting to gen, or even running a late gen.

Hmm, maybe we are saying almost the same thing.
Almost.

I think the only problem is that, while the game page is frozen, it is difficult to verify whether your turn has uploaded properly or not...

Pretty much the only problem though.

Cool

Yes, this is because I have internet access from the hotel, and as I know from Gorynych SAH was frosen for several days, yesterday Gorynych sent me an SMS to inform that all turns are here.

I'm here to unlock the game, but as I see it's already unlocked, thaks to Ron. Smile

In any case for possible future problems Gorynych is able to inform me. Good luck!

As far as I can tell my Stars servers are free, so I'll not complain about the quality Wink

Maybe we need some banner ads on the game pages Laughing

Yes, the server is free, and NO, I don't want banner ads.
They're too easy to get around anyway, and *I* don't like banner ads.

I use Firefox and Adblocker updated with filterset.g, and enjoy a mostly banner-ad-free web browsing experience.

SAH is currently hosted on a 4u rack-mount duel-cpu board (but maybe only 1 cpu in at the moment), case has 2 hot-swappable power-supplies, and a IDE raid of 3 drives. For some reason, its a power-hungry beast and seems to love 'popping' UPS battery backup systems. It doesn't help that we're having a lot of storms around this time of year, and the power sometimes flickers when a storm comes near.

The admin is being very kind, hosting SAH for free on one of his boxes in his house.

I was kidding about the banner ads Wink

That's a very generous friend you have there, make sure he knows how much the community appreciates him helping you help us all.

I'm continually amazed at how vibrant this community continues to be, so long after the game was released. Yes it is partly about the quality of the game, but these days I suspect it has more to do with places like this one.
