Has anyone ever come across a limit to the number of fleets displayed in the Other Fleets Summary pane ?
(press F3 three times).
There are still 13 out of 16 in the game at 2486 and some of the players with good scanning have reported not seeing ships listed.
The ships that are missing belong to the higher player numbers - e.g. some of player 13 ships are missing, and all of player 14, so probably 15 and 16 as well.
For one player the window contains over 1550 fleets belonging to about 10.5 players.
I guess that by getting this far I've already answered the question, but I don't ever recall it being mentioned before (and I've read a lot of Stars articles).
Maybe people don't use that particular screen too much, or perhaps it's because there are still so many of us still in the game with lots of fleets and JoaTs with very good scanning.
I should add that all the fleets are visible in the normal map window, so there isn't too much of a problem.

It has been a few years since checked but isn't it alphabetically? Probably not, could be that just stuck to my memory because the list was sorted that way ...

I think people don't use that screen alot, one of the reasons being it not accurate as you say.
Like Kotk said I sometimes use it to sort by weight, it helps to spot bombers/warfleets ...

IIRC the sum total limit is ~1024 fleets. Fleets are listed by ID order. Any number of fleets past that total results in the next races, in ID order, not being listed.
You can still dump the fleet information to a text file, Excel, or a utility like Stars! Notebook, etc... All the fleets will be listed in those.

It has been asked several times on the NG. To bad the NG isn't used much anymore, as with google searching for this stuff has become very easy.

You can sort by many factors by just doing 'sort by' each item, however in large games it will bring the game to a screaching halt. For example, if you sort by weight, composition, then owner in a huge game, the next time it opens very slow.

Stars! recalcuates the sorted list frequently, I'm not sure it does it for other fleets reports but I know it does it for your planets and your ships. If you change anything the change to sorted list happens as you make changes, and sometime that can really bog things down. Also I've seen opening a game take a long time, the solution is once it does, set planet and fleet sort order to be by ID and then close, next open will be much faster... This is a pain, because I like to sort by other things and often forget to reset it to just ID.
