The Careful Wars II
REGISTERED Version - 2.7
J Patch will be used.
See below to see how often the turns will go out.
Turns sent via Mime.
8 player game.
Intermediate player level.
Medium Universe.
Sparse Density.
Distant Player positions.
Accelerated bbs play.
There can be a winner by a player vote. See below.
At least 200 years must pass before a winner is declared.

In an average pocket universe in the unfashionable backwaters of the myriad galaxies, several civilizations arose. When they finally decided to leave their homeworlds in search of new frontiers and all that Roddenberry crap, they discovered an unusual problem. A powerful energy swept through the universe on a regular basis, disrupting communications between ships and
worlds. Every five years, this interference broke and governments were able to issue new directives to their fleets and planets. Undaunted by such a challenge, the hungry young races climbed out of their prehistoric muck with intent on becoming the top of the universal food chain.

This game, Careful Wars II, will generate on a 72-hour maximum schedule. Each generation will advance 5 years. This will remain in effect for the entire duration of the game. The game can end by player vote at the 2600 generation (40 turns in) or players can vote to continue. A new vote will be solicited each additional 100 years (20 turns) after that. Winners may be selected by any criteria at the discretion of the players, including economic, military, territorial, or other superiority. Team victories may be allowed at the discretion of the players. Although it cannot be effectively policed, I ask that all diplomacy and other communication between players is limited to in-game messages only. This makes it difficult to effectively communicate, but keeps the spirit of the 5-year "blackouts" intact.

Known cheats are disallowed. Split fleet dodge is allowed as is chaff. Host is playing. Turns will be submitted via Autohost. Send your passworded racefiles to bigEDog@prodigy.net with "Careful Wars II" in the subject line. If more than 8 players apply, I may increase the size of the universe. Any player missing two consecutive turns will be placed as inactive. Don't sign up if you don't intend to finish.

Due to the highly strategic nature of this game, I suggest that beginners not apply. If you're not sure if you are a beginner, you are. If you join anyway, good luck. You'll need it.

Carefully Yours,
EDog

Are packets allowed? I would strongly recommend that they not be. Evil or Very Mad

Yes, they are allowed. So is minelaying, anti-terraforming, smart bombs, popdropping, and harsh language. In short, this is just like a regular game with turns generated at regular five-year intervals. As an interesting side note, the original Careful Wars featured an unusual mix of 3 ITs, 3 SDs, and an AR. Not a PP in the bunch. The ITs got off to a fast start, but the SDs really came into their own in this game. And need I mention how an AR benefits from 5-year blocks of time when nobody is hassling them?

It's just a different kind of strategy. If someone's tossing packets around, you have to make use of planetary defenses and orbital drivers instead of interception. (Of course, saying that, we'll wind up with 6 PPs and an IS or something equally strange in CWII!)

Six racefiles have been received. We need a minimum of two more players to start.

We now have eight players. I'm waiting for a spot on Autohost and will continue to accept any straggler racefiles until the game is ready to generate.

Thanks for all your interest!

I'm not EDog, but I think I can answer your question Rolling Eyes

Requests to host new games are put on a queue. As old games finish on AutoHost, I email hosts giving them a game slot. Then they have 2 weeks to get the files to me.

When I receive the game files, it usually takes no more than 3 days for me to have the time to setup the game.

As long as you have jRC3 (which is used on Autohost) they are compatible, 2.7 has sound, 2.6 has not, that's IIRC the only difference ...

Ten racefiles received - I'm no longer accepting new players for this game and will send files off to Ron within the next day.
