This makes me want to vomit --- and/or rip off some heads.

Yay!

Yet another black mark for pointless capitalism...
Can you feel the joy? Rolling Eyes

And this isn't so much walking the Earth, as slithering upon it in a most sinister fashion.

Course of action: Suggested
Rip of required heads, then apply vomit. Razz

We don't really have capitalism in the good ol' USA. We have Corporatism, the hunchbacked flesh-eating brother of Capitalism that tries to steal its identity and stab it in the back (just like Communism did to Socialism, ad infinitum);
turning a free market into a slave market, so to speak. Confused
...
The daemon Entropy at work. All grapes and good ideas, once they ripen, begin to rot. This is why we always need fresh ideas and fresh revolutions to keep the wheels of life turning.

Fresh ideas and revolutions are forbidden by the hunchbacked flesh-eating brother.

Anyway all the IT is made in China or Taiwan. I am 90% sure there will be clones free of TCPA for any hardware. Yellow clones. What will people buy?

If the big corporations like Compaq, HP, IBM, Intel and Microsoft want to die such horrible death, its up to them.

I'll ask another question: what will companies buy? It's nice to prevent employees to run anything other on company's HW but the SW those employees are paid to work with.
My my 2 cents.

How does TCPA help there? The people who install stuff and set user rights are called "system administrators" worldwide. Do you think that company orders some Compaq with Windows XP, Excel, Word plus Norton Antivirus... and workplace is ready for emplyee? Laughing

Most bigger companies got their own software departments that are developing software for themself and for services they offer. Lot of them are constantly outsourcing significant part of their software making and its maintenance. Companies got their back office systems, enterprise wide databases etc. Do you think it is some widespread commercial package that accepts your creditcard in shop or makes the connection when you deal with your cell phone? Nope, there are bunch of tailor-made servers and often some sleepless guy in cellar is virtually holding the wires together. Have you ever cursed your ISB? Do you think TCPA makes it better? It all has existed for decades, it all is under constant development and evolution. Companies have invested millions into it and its still sloppy, they can no way throw it all away overnight since it is no certified by Bill Gates. Nod

I believe that if computer hardware starts to decide on its own what it does run and what it does not run then its bit too harsh change in the game rules. Companies simply can not afford to buy such hardware, so they cant upgrade their workplaces to such operating system that runs on such hardware. Maybe only in US if it is forced by law. Confused

Mad2 This has to be the most blatent attempt at market control I have ever seen! As if software patents weren't enough!

They can't even see the implications of their actions. Where are the next generation of software developers going to come from if they aren't allowed to learn how to program without an expensive license?
We're going to end up with incompetant developers creating flawed software that no one can use. Sounds like Microsoft has a lot to do with this Smile

I think Coyote has hit the nail on the head with Corporatism. This is Capitalism gone horribly, horribly wrong; A mutated virus that's eating the worlds economies. I don't think we can rely on Democracy to save us from it either. Corporatists seem to have mastered the art of public relations and, failing that, have hordes of hungry lawyers to consume anyone who stands in their way.
