What is to stop "allies" colonising worlds for you so you can pop drop them? Twisted Evil

You each use your 10th planet to colonise a planet for each other and then pop-drop each other. You have gained a world by conquest and are free to continue in the same manner.

With only 10 planets allowed I don't see the point in banning CA. I'd rather bann JoaT with its 20% biger planet.

Guessing when he says 10 planets that means the original 10.

If you lose one of the 10 that would mean you are stuck with 9.

In other words, if 5 players then max of 50 planets (original 50), with not allowed to leave one and switch to another. (Which would allow stealing a planet then leaving it and setting up instead in your own core).

Seems workable. I guess it would then still be worthwhile stealing planets that are no good for you. Once you leave them, no one else could have them either, making remaining planets even more valuable.

Well, I am a bit confused at the overall obective(s) of the race limitations.

Also, I am not sure how to interpret some of the items. For example, number of factories can not be "worse" than 5. Is that not the minimum number?

If I am looking at things correctly, I do see a few designs that would have a substantial advantage - things could get unbalanced.

Okay, let me help you out a little.

The race limitations are there for what I consider to be legitimate reasons. SD is banned because I want this to be an offensive rather than a defensive game. CA is banned because with the planet number limits, I feel that they would have a distinct advantage over those races who are going to be 'settling' for mid-percentage quality worlds.

The factory settings listed in the custom rules are grouped together to reflect an overall view of the way factories must be set up. Having 5 factories per 10k pop is acceptable, so long as your resources per 10 factories is at least 10 and the cost to build is no worse than 15. The objective here is to discourage -F races. With the settings as listed your factories would suck - but not bad enough to make a factoriless race really feasible.

Maybe so, but it's not how well they attack but how well they DEFEND that's the issue.

Since the last game was ruled out due to confusion I will throw my towel into this one. Count me in. I will have you a file/password before the end of weekend of 01/15.

Is the restricton based on current number of stars owned, or on number of stars ever colonised. If I pop-drop a world early in the game does it count against the number of worlds I am permitted to colonise? If I lose stars will I regain the ability to colonise?

Will it be permitted you re-colonise a world that is packeted / bombed out?

A really simple rule you might want to consider would be to simply say you are only permitted to create a fixed number of new ships that contain a coloniser module (actual number would vary by PRT due to 2nd HW / starting ships.)

Whatever you decide, I'm sending in a racefile asap, looks like a fun one. Cool

To Neverborn: Haven't seen that race file yet...did you send it?

To Dogthinker: The restriction is on stars owned. You can colonize again if you lose worlds to attack, comets, etc. Also, worlds taken in any matter count towards the ten. So, if you take a tenth by pop dropping someone else, you are then done colonizing by more peaceful means.

Hope that helps,

The_Crowd

Sorry to badger, I know I can seem pedantic sometimes:

So if you lose a star because the population is wiped out (bomb / packet / comet) then you can re-colonise it if, and only if, this took you below 10 stars total. If you still had more than 10 you'd have to just find a star to take off somebody else to make up the numbers instead. I'm I undertstanding you correctly (seems good to me!) ?

I'll try to get my race in today. Cool

Dogthinker: Correct on your assumption regarding recolonization.

We're looking at between 6 and 10 players depending on who actually turns in race files.

PS, If you're playing, I need a race by Monday 0400 GMT.

Is this game open to all standards of players or did you inadvertantly leave that out?

Looks like a good game for an AR if you know how to play it well. Might be risky though, since it's a small fairly tight universe particularly if all ten players sign up.

Hmmm ... might make alliances rather loose and could actually be beneficial to go to war with your prior friends Smile
Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a non-playing host (or someone) randomly checking that players aren't pop-dropping each other, using special battle orders, etc. whilst still set to friend.

Yes, it's open to all standards of players. However, if you want to play you will need to get me a race in the next 24 hours.

Yeah, AR could be fun if you could survive through the early-game mineral crunch. Considering the size of the map and rules regarding number of colonies that might be tough.

Yes, I am considering a third party moderator to occasionally check turns.
