Starting a new game to be run on autohost.

Parameters are:

Medium Normal Distant
AccBBS
10 - 16 players

No pregame alliances
Last Man standing

CAs are banned
chaff and split fleet ok, other 'cheats' not allowed

Process turns 5 days per week (M, T, W, T, F) - missing five consecutive turns will result in being set inactive.

No experience/skill requirements, however I would like players who have played in a few games against human opponents.

Game will start after I get at least 10 players and a spot opens on autohost.

Update: I have spot on autohost.

I am also looking for a new game, and want to know of any skill level requirements, race restrictions, and thoughts on in-game "features" such as chaff, etc.

Hey Kang! if you are gonna play, then I'll actually pull out a viable race, instead of playing an AR or 4% HE. Wink

I know I forgot the race restrictions and stuff in the first posting. But I did remember just after I hit the post button, so its in the second and here it is again Smile

I didn't make any strict skill/experience requirements. I would consider myself an intermediate player who is hanging on in another game and learning a lot.

I have three players now, and a spot on autohost. So everyone sign up by sending me a passworded race file.

You should be able to edit your first post. It's easier if all information is there. If you can not edit your own post anymore than you can always ask a moderator to do it for you,

I'm planning on it.

Why don't you design a nice PP Laughing and give me a chance. Very Happy

To Brian...

I would like to wait and send a race AFTER I know how many are playing. It will make a difference to me.

Heh. I never did like PP that much. It might actually play well in a universe like this, though. Start with 2 planets, and possible a quick packet kill on a race. I'll think about it. Wink

Yes, ditto for me. # of players in this universe will effect my race design.

For those interested in knowing, there are six players in the game at this moment. That does not count mlaub, sarducci or kang (there are nine including them).

If there's still a spot left I'll take it.
Just finished testbedding and although my skills won't be good enough to beat players like Mlaub or Kang, I'll do alright. Cool

Sending the racefile now!

Just a suggestion: the game sounded like it might also have been suitable for beginners, which is why I didn't apply when I first read your post, but against some of the players now they won't have a chance. Perhaps you could allow them (and only them) to play CA.
They'll still get beaten, but will at least have a better chance of lasting longer and will get to learn a lot in the meanwhile. Smile

So, counting sarducci, kang, Steve1, Dark_traveller, and me, that's 11. I can have my race to you within 24hr of request. Probably more like 8 hrs. Like Kang, though, I just want to tweak my race for the player density.

As a FYI to those that read this, but don't understand...A Medium Normal is 288 planets. With 10-16 players, you will be bumping elbows quickly, fighting for planets. At 10 players, everyone will get 28.8 planets on average. With 16 players, only 18 planets on average. That's a big difference in distribution and proximity of neighbors, and tweaking your race for this difference will be telling.

I've been out of the game for several years, but I recently dug up my old keys and re-downloaded the game. I've been stalking the forums for the past month looking for a game that is straight forward without 84 special rules... I would love to get in on this. I did play several games against human players back around 1997, and have taken a refresher course vs. the AI now. I would consider my old ability level about a low-mid intermediate.

Anyhow, I'll send in a race, if you still have room please add me Smile

You have experienced players and not so experienced. It is in the interests of the inexperienced to work together as a team to survive the big guys and have a chance.

Think of it as a Babylon 5 scenario where Matt=Vorlons, Kang=Shadows, Steve1=Drak. Everyone else works to form a league of nonaligned worlds and loosely work to eventually bring down the big guys to make it interesting for everyone.

I have my hands full as the biggest power in Trans surrounded by friends and waiting to see who may backstab me, so I won't be joining. However if anyone wants help/suggestions with their race design they can pmail me.

Thanks for the vote of confidence there, but I am definately not in Mlaub or Kang's class Laughing
When I said I'd do alright I meant that I can hold my own, but if one of those guys goes for me it will be goodbye to my poor race Scared
I've played before in a game with Mlaub and every so often there would be an in game message sent to everyone saying <race name> RIP. He took on three races at the same time, basically by himself and beat them "easily".
Damn good player!

The total count of players who asked to join by email and/or posting here is now 13.

I'll wait until Monday night to get three more players, then we should be ready to get the admin out of the way and begin.

Note, one person requested clarification of if it is Public Player Scores. It is NOT public player scores.

In Babylon 5 series, Vorlons and Shadows are by far the most powerful. When they finally start fighting each other, Vorlons seem stronger than Shadows as far as warships go. (Shadows are more into sneaky manipulation).

Drak were working for Shadows but not in same class as Shadows or Vorlons.

Ah, I get it now. I have watched Babylon5 before but was not familiar enough with the show and therefore your analogy, to grasp the concept fully.

That sounds about right Cool

Thanks for the heads up Matt, Much appreciated.
It so happens that my race "should" perform well under most circumstances and particularly for a very crowded universe, but of course it depends on a certain amount of luck too .... Here's hoping Pirate

Thanks for the PR Steve...I think. Wink I'm getting a visual here, of all my neighbors banding together right from the get go just to kill me.

I was actually considering a slight variant of the race from that game, but now I'm not so sure it would be strong enough to fight off 5+ races. Laughing So I'll probably opt for something else.

Ohh i think i do some pr work too. Wink

There was once a game where one expert played alone and there was also 5 pregame teams of 3 intermediates each.

True, it wasnot very fair setup ... Expert had one advantage ... he got to play CA while for the rest CA was banned.

Expert won solo victory. The morale is that Shadows need no Drak against pile of intermediates. Wink

Yes, that's exactly the point.
Once we all saw how good he was no one else wanted to join in the fray and everyone went about protecting their own piece of the universe. As long as Mlaub was busy dealing with other races we all considered ourselves "moderately" safe Smile

Admittedly a poor long term strategy, but that was the universe with the cheater (Gregor Vorbarra), so we all had other things to deal with anyway.
Even the cheater was scared of him Laughing
