Great new forum, Ron. Rank doesn't really float my boat. It's not that bad per se, but could end up being more negative than positive. Don't let all the comments get you down or get you Confused trying to MM the system by rating everything posted. WAY to much sweat!! Surprised

If anything, rank should be more connected with playing the game than flapping your lips (or mandibles, beaks, mucous membranes).
There just doesn't seem any practical way to do this without manipulation, unnecessary ego trips, etc.
Confused

Just hope your efforts keep players available for an occasional challenging game (without dropping). Surprised

I still don't really understand what the rankings are for. There doesn't seem to be any "perks" that go with them so they are just decorations as far as I can tell.

It's about respect and your worth to the forum. With this new system people's rise in rank depends on the quality of their posts and what they can bring to the forum, not just how fast they can post. Since people naturally want a better rank, it forces them to help the community instead of just being a nuisance Smile

Although, part of it should be based on time, it will suck to still be a recruit 3 years from now Razz

Shocked Hmmmm! Something like, if not post new message in 4 weeks, then lose 25% of current rank-points?

Sore people, like me, have vacations. I simply say, if we PM ron to put account in stasis for xWeeks there should be no point deduction I mean, not posting for two weeks, how many people have done that at Google Forums, its more common than not(don't exclude majorities, ever, you'll get hurt).

Alleek vacations, yes. But in my post I said 4 weeks. Are there really that many users who take 4 week vacations and can't post a message during that time?

Yeson't understand why you want to deduct points from people who don't post regularly. I like the new system where Ron rates each post on its usefulness since it means that people are encouraged to post something useful. By deducting points for not posting then all you're doing is encouraging people to post something useless every week or so just to maintain their rank.

The question I ask is this: If somebody was helpful 2 years ago and rose to some high rank why would he/she be less helpful now?

Demotion is bad idea. Someone like Jason Cawley would have no rank now. Cool

Yes when I thought of it, I'd forgotten that he'd changed the system away from a simple post count. My bad. Spank me?

Besides...if Jason Cawley actually turned up. I expect he'd gain a special rank of Captian+ fairly quickly anyway.

heeidn't say that I was going to impliment deducting points over time. I just said that it was an interesting idea, and we're discussing it.

Too bad you can't get ribbons for special missions. Like a violet heart for surviving three mail bombings or something like that. ROFLMAO

I think anyone who loses use of a limb while using this forum deserves parading before us all as a galactic hero and should be given a purple galaxy of something like that.

Any man (or woman) who saves the life of a fellow user while working in the forum deserves another award
