In the game I am in right now, enemy ships continually appear out of nowhere. Shocked A wormhole jumps right to one's mind, but with my scanners I can observe a radius of about 150 ly around the spot where the ships appear first. I do not see any wormhole.

The only possible explanation for me is that wormholes actually cloak, so that the wormhole may well be in my scanning range but not show up because it is in the outer 25% (or so) of my scanners.

I have searched the forum and not found anything and I do not remember reading about this somewhere else.

Can anybody please tell me if wormholes cloak or offer any other explanation?

Thanx a lot!

Yes, WHs have inherent cloaking. I don't know the amount of cloaking, though I'm sure someone here does.

From the help file...

Quote:

Similar to a cloaked fleet, a wormhole is hard to see. To normal scanners, a wormhole will be less visible by 75%. Once you discover a wormhole it will no longer be cloaked to you.

Which suggests that wormholes are 75% cloaked to normal scans, but not cloaked to pen scans. However, once detected the wormholes are not cloaked at all.

If it were possible they are cloaked in then transfer from SS player and/or overclaoker are also options.

Non-SS can make an overcloaker with Galleon loaded with 55% cloaks and cheap heavy armour, to achieve 97% overcloaker and sneak a fair sized fleet in at perhaps 80%-90%.

In early going, against an opponent with wimpy scanners, even a frigate or privateer loaded with 35% cloaks and heavy armour might sneak a little (such as a suprise sniper against large freighters)
