Greets to all Starship troopers!

Got a few games ending soon and want to host one again.

I have been in a few games recently where the game has been spoiled by drop-outs. Please only play if you want to stick it out. By dropping you do 2 things: 1)Leave your allies in the lurch and 2)Allow one or more players to grab an advantage over the others still playing by giving them free or easy planets and minerals. Let's have a bit of dedication here ! Razz

Huge Universe. 16 Players (Hopefully - But I will start with 12 - 14 if necessary). No public player scores. Acc BBS. No pre-game alliances. Chaff allowed. Fleet splitting allowed. NO other cheats/tricks/bugs allowed. Any PRT.

24 hour turn arounds up until 2445, then either 36 hour turns or strict gens (player vote). Last man standing or player vote. NO Winning alliance will be recognised that has more than 3 Allies.

Passworded race files to MHurn37474@aol.com

Huge seems a bit large Laughing to me, but first I'd better ask what density you are thinking of using.

Huge Universe.

Grin That's asking for dropouts. Wink
I'm playing in a huge ATM, taking up way too much time, this will definitely be the last time I play in one! Wink
Anyway, I doubt you'll find a lot of intermediates wanting to play in a huge.

Hm ... Mick Hurn? Sounds familiar, I think I was a replacement in one of your games: "Third, The Big One!"? and I met you and Zoid in Pure (you played an SS ... the Pixies??). That was years ago! Good to see you're still playing Stars!

Kind regards,
mch

Hi Micha!

Yep, that was me (and Zoid).

What is wrong with Huge with 16 players? You all want quick games or what ? Laughing

I think the problem with stars! is that it is overrun with middle aged businessmen Very Happy As soon as it becomes time consuming, we all find we have too much work to continue.

Anyway, I will stick with it for a while and see how many turn up. I will mail my regulars and see what is happening.

Sheesh! 01:35 am CET only another 55 minutes until the Wolves v Kings game on the TV. Let's hope my eyes stay open Sad

Any other NBA freaks out there? I reckon the winner of this game will take the title this year.

Thoughts?

You have to be a masochist to do all the needed MM. If you aren't, then someone that is will overrun you.
Those games aren't won by the best player, but the most endurant one. I've been in such contests. Despite being successfull I'll never again repeat it. Only a fool doesn't learn from his mistakes.

How long did a turn take you at the end? were you at war at the time? Was it the end game? How many planets did you have? Just curious.

I spend up to 1/2 hour a turn in the late game, prewar. During a war, I'll spend twice that when at war, until I have destroyed the majority of my enemies fleet(s). Then I drop down to about 45 minutes.

The most I've ever spent, is 2 hours a turn for a week or so. However, that would be using an HE in a huge, with multiple enemies/fronts. Automated orders are a must!

Killing a quite ok SD with my SS took 2 hours per turn in huge. That war lasted about 2 months. SD is already lot of work to kill in medium. Nod

The first one was my second beginner game, 8 races in huge dense. I've been running a pretty standard TT HG CA. IIRC game ended around turn 60 when I had 100+ planets, almost more res then the rest of the uni together and at (small) war with the second and 4th player, the rest dropped. We fought with CCs, my Jihad CCs had ruled the battlefield at 2455 Wink. TT 25 almost reached, 40+ breeders. With CA and TT I just couldn't stop growing.About 2 hours per turn, mostly moving pop and minerals around.
The second one was large normal modded VML 1.1 (my last game). I haven't finished it, had to drop from leading position at about turn 110 for RL reason. Had about 80 planets. At war with the leading SD from turn 70, helping a bit one ally, killing a bit two other players, tech trading like mad, taking planets from a dropped player, remotely minig with 3 fleets. Up to 4 hours per turn when most intense, 2-3 hours at the end. I could afford playing one hour, but Ptolemy just didn't want to quit Smile, so I had to do that.
There wasn't any main fleet battle, because there wasn't main fleets, only a lot of skirmishing. My attack fleet of 250 Nubs killing SD's core worlds was the largest in known universe.
BR, Iztok

Hi Guys, sorry for the late response, but it was Friday night Cool

I see Iztok was in a huge, dense with only 8 players. This is where the problem starts. I said 16 players, but I would start with 12 - 14. But I have to agree with Matt. There is no way I spend more than an hour on a turn (maybe this is why I lose so often Sad )

I have started receiving race files and people have started making suggestions. 2 main ones being make the universe sparse or change it down to Large. I can live with that.

If I get the 16 players it will be Huge sparse. If not then down to large. My main aim is dedicated players that do not drop when their first fleet goes down or they get attacked by 2 players at once and "Cry DOOM!!" Shocked

When do you intend to start this game.
I can't join right now, but if the game's still open in a week, I'll be back from uni and will have nothing to do but play stars Very Happy

Incedentally, I think a large, sparse would be sufficient even for 16 players. Or, you could have huge and impose restrictions of hab settings to limit inhabitable planets. This also make war that bit more rewarding (chances are you and your opponant will have overlapping hab). Just another idea.

I see Iztok was in a huge, dense with only 8 players. This is where the problem starts.

My main problems are being MM freak, and "everything optimal" approach to the game. This combined results in a big demand on work. So I had to limit myself to games with no more than 40 planets per player, preferably less.

IMO for a new game announcement it is better to specify the target number of planets per player and approximate density, and according to the response you'd chose the final size and density.

Hi Guys !

The game is still in it's planning stages so it should not start for at least a week. So if downsider wants to send me his race file so I can secure him a place, I think it will be about when he wants to start.

I agree MM is a pain, but this is where the fun of stars! begins, you can adjust the game to the type that fits your workload or lifestyle/playing style better. I have to admit, most players who have registered want the Large, Sparse and so "Your wish is my command" Very Happy . Large, Sparse it is!

3 race files in from the forum and I have just mailed my known stars! players list, so come on guys, let's game!

Going to the soccer game now, my team just achieved promotion to the German 1st division so we are going to party a little too Surprised
I have the day off tomorrow Laughing

Hopefully I make 13, if he gets my race file in time!

So when the game gets underway, do I just email turn files to you, or what? New to games outside of my little circle of friends.

Hi Guys,

Well I have 14 files, with my own that makes 15. If anyone was thinking of joining, then you had better hurry up !

Game will be played on autohost (for Crappicus). You will receive instructions from autohost, but the first turn is always put on hold until all are in, and if anyone has any problems we hold until it is sorted.

Mick

OK, we have a "Roller"!!

16th and final game file into me.

Just one point (I will be mailing you all anyway!) some of you seem very shy with your names. I need to put something on the autohost to identify you. For those who have not, can you mail me with name, race name (as you want to be known on autohost) and whether you email turns or not. If I do not get a reply on the email turns, I will automatically set it so you DO receive email turns.

I hope to have this up and running by the weekend.

Thanks to all who responded.

I think I have counted 2 of my own files DOOH!! Rolling Eyes

OK, sorry about that - So we either get 2 new players in 24 hours time, or we go with 14.

OK guys. We made it !!

16 players and this will be classed as a ranking game now. It does not affect the game any, check the "Rankings section" for details.

Details are on the way to Ron and we should be going for it early next week.

Game on!

Mick out.
