Game for beginners only

Medium Universe, Packed Density
Player Positions: Distant
Accelerated BBS, Galaxy Clumping
Public Player Scores Shocked

up to 9 players
Chaff & Split Fleet Dodge allowed
Cheats (malicious mis-use of Stars! bugs)
are strictly forbidden.

All races allowed. Help with racefiles is available.

No pregame alliances
Alliances encouraged in the game (but no more
than 3 will be allowed for a victory)
Hostess will be playing as a Watcher.
Everyone must set the Watcher to friend.
Setting the Watcher to other than friend during the game is subject to immediate termination. (once bitten, twice shy Wink )

Drop outs will not be replaced.

Winner(s) is high score at year 120
Alliance scores will be added together & averaged for final result.

We will retain passwords and passwords should not be changed throughout the game without notifying us first.

Passworded racefiles can be sent to ashlynann@hotmail.com
(don't worry about the spam guys.. this address is already a lost cause Laughing Nod )

To be played on Stars! Autohost... 24 hours to start, then after year 2450 or so, 48 hours between generations.

Medium/packed means 540 planets for 9 players only. As far as I understand, you want 60 planets per player in a game for beginners? Shocked Are you sure?

The beginners will get boring with the micromanagement for so many planets. Evil or Very Mad

And you don't want to replace drops ? How will you keep enough players 'till the year 120 ? Confused

CA's not banned? Why?

"No pregame alliances" = nice to want, but you can't avoid Laughing So, better to forget such announcements.

Last, but not least: what's a "beginner"? First game against humans? Second game ...?

Just for thinking about Cool

Medium packed has always worked fine in my beginners’ games. Never did that calculation though – is interesting to know how many planets per average there are.

My policy is not to replace drops. If somebody drops, it’s usually because they’ve been attacked and they aren’t worth replacing anyway. In certain cases, I may find a replacement if I feel that it is in the best interest of the game -- otherwise my players shouldn’t expect it. I think my games have a very low drop-out rate anyhow.

I didn’t ban CA because I plan this to be a “beginner’s” game. Beginner’s are allowed to play CA too if they want to.

No Pre-game Alliances. Tis a rule, tis all. A girl can hope, can’t she? No, I can’t stop the clever from getting around this, but I’m hoping that all I’ll have to do is state the rule, and I’ll get 9 honest players.

What is a beginner? Good question. Too many answers. I say, if you are a beginner, you’ll know it. Nod Shocked I was kinda hoping to avoid putting a label on it and weed out the "non beginners" via email..

7 people now confirmed.

I am intrested, but I have a few questions....

Why so long between generations after 2450?

Since I am new to online play, will I be able to look foward to help in game with question about gameplay/stratigy/whatever else is Stars! related while I am apart of it?

I have a race designed, I got the design from the forums here, and I noticed that race help is available.. Can I send in my race to see if it apropriate for this map/game type?

Do I just need to send in my race file to be accpeted for the game?

Thanks for the help, and look forward to joining...
Strat

*****Why so long between generations after 2450?

After about 2450, you need more time for your turn. And, should you have allies, expecially on the other side of the world, it takes a little time to get the email back on what the "plan" is - so 48 hours usually is the requested time.

*****Since I am new to online play, will I be able to look forward to help in game with question about gameplay/stratigy/whatever else is Stars! related while I am apart of it?

Yep, we are available to answer your questions. (looks for the mouse in her pocket.. erm...we?...Smirk ) Sometimes we won't feel confident giving an answer ourselves, so we use our friends in the Stars! community to help with the answers. Usually not one person, either, so you can form your own conclusion.

*****I have a race designed, I got the design from the forums here, and I noticed that race help is available.. Can I send in my race to see if it apropriate for this map/game type?

Sure.

*****Do I just need to send in my race file to be accpeted for the game?

Yep. Be prepared for a few questions via email too Nod

*****Thanks for the help, and look forward to joining...

Your welcome,

Ashlyn

Edit: forgot one of the **** Wink

Combination of size and dense will create fix numbers of planets. As far as I read in this forum, 30 - 40 planets per player are most recommended.

If you have so many planets in a "beginner" game, you could get some drops because of the unexpected "work" together with lack of time after year 2450 or the unexpeted realtime-length of this game. If not, you are lucky. Just my opinion Cool

The Beginners Luck definition has been run successfully for 4 years by Ashlyn. I would think that if there was a problem with the universe definition she would have noticed by now.

Just my opinion Cool
