Hey Folks,

I was wondering if anybody could explain to me why the autobuid factories in my queues are being skipped, but if I add factories manually they get built. Any ideas here.

Much Appreciated

The autobuild will build factories up to what your pop can operate.
If you manually build them then they will be built regardless of how much pop you have.

Maybe, but I'm not sure. I've checked it out and the is a planet that can support 4 factories, it has two factories built, and one factory manually inserted into the queue, then factories autobuild upto 1 and it is still skipped. I'm still stumped.

cheers

If you have no pop to operate the factory autobuild will be skipped.
If you have no minerals to build the the factory autobuild will be skipped.
If you lack only resources to build the factory then non-autobuild factory item will be made into top of build queue that is partially complete.

Similarily work rest autobuilt things.

Anytime you put something into queue manually make sure you got minerals to build it. Otherwise it is usually better to build something else that you *can* build ... mines or terraforming for example.

Yeah, That's my understanding of the situation, but not how it is working. If I add another factory manually it is green, it will be built. If you want me to send you the file I will, then you could check it out and let me know what you think

Thanks

Sometimes it seems that the CPU calculating ability has some effect on the reporting ability within the build queues... I don't know if this is actually the case here or not.

I do know, that sometimes, when I am playing the queue report indicates that something will be built, but when the gen actually takes place not all of what was requested is actually built.

So you are saying that you have a situation where if you add 1 factory it is built, if you add an autobuild 1 factory then it is not built ?
Do you actually build them, or are you just saying the queue entries turn green ?
Can you give us the hab value and your pop and factory settings ?

I have noticed a difference in what it says will be built vs what actually gets built. This is not a problem if you are playing on the same computer that also gens the turns. Therefore, I think it has something to do with how rounding works, but I'm surprised that different computers do it differently. It might be because AH games are not run on a windows box (at least I don't think they are).

Gened under WINE (Windows emulator) under X-Windows running on a Linux box.

I would be fascinated to know how the OS could make a difference.

I think you'll find it is a bug in the client, or one of the other conditions preventing the autobuild above is being met.

I don't know what is making a difference. But there is a difference somewhere. It could easily be the OS, as it's a windows emulator, and Stars! is a 16 bit Windows program, that's not very high on anyones list of getting everything exactly right. Conversely, it could easily be Stars! there have been several other cases of rounding anomalies.

Ok, so I'll just chalk it up to rounding error then Confused
