I'm willing to look at any and all races and suggest improvements.

In fact, I'd suggest that you do precisely that; have me (or someone) look at all of them for advice.

Beginners need the advice, and it'll be a much better game if there aren't races which are unplayably crippled in one way or another.

Also, I *strongly* advise not going above medium, Nash.
Large/Huge takes way way too long, and you'll get a lot of dropouts.

I'd strongly suggest that you drop the size of the universe a lot. Big games take a LONG time to finish, that usually comes as a big surprise after playing against the AI where you can do your turn in a few minutes, press F9 and have a new turn, and play a decade or two in a few hours at the most. At 5 turns a week (fairly high) you can get 20 years done in a month.

I would suggest going to small or medium at the most, you can adjust the density too.

Okay, looks like I have two players so far:
* SlaveOfSeven
* ForceUser

And looks like a maximum size of a medium size universe...

Any other players?

  • Icebird
  • Peter ??

If any of you guys are duplicates could you tell me...

Thanks!

I'm curious where all the beginners are?

Even if you've played one or two games before, you are more then welcome.

Have you posted the game announcement on rec.games.computer.stars ? If you do then you may get a wider audience, and also someone will hopefully pick it up and add it to "the list".

Not many newbies know about this forum.

Okay: I have 11 players now. So there are a few more slots if anyone is interested.
I hope to start the game on the weekend.

I'm about to send of the autohost request.

Players:
Now if you have NOT sent me your race file, do so now.
If you want comments on your race, also tell me NOW!
The race files I have (and have working on my version of stars)
are marked with a #. If you don't have a #, please send me your race file and password.

The players I have:
* SlaveOfSeven [#]
* ForceUser [#]
* Bloodstorm [#]
* PeterF [#]
* Richard O [#]
* Casey S [#]
* Richard H [#]
* Topper S [#]
* Lu?s[1]
* Kaly
* Gammaray [#]

Also if anyone wants to send me a new version of their race file with any changes please feel free.

nash

[1] 'Lu?s' is probably not the persons name. However their mail client did not set a character encoding and the third letter in their name is not a valid utf-8 character.

[Edit: Fix Icebird/PeterF screwup by me - explains why I don't habe IceBirds race too Wink
Also added new player...]
