Hi everybody...

Another question most likely answered somewhere around here, but I could not find it...

So here it comes:

Is there a way (or a tool) to simply count other player's ships?

I would like to know how many types of NubA, NubB, chaff etc... exist (or I can see).

Exporting the .f files gives me the names, ship counts etc, but not the detailed fleet composition.

Can somebody help???

And: Is there a tool to visualize the scanning rate of other's fleets? It is shown in the .f files, but some picture would be nice.

(And I dont dare to ask: Is there a tool that records fleet movements from several turns??? Rolling Eyes )

Thanks

Robert

If it's not in the fleet report file, you basically can't have it.

For fleet scanning, you've just prompted me to sit down and write a "fleet scanning" layer for my JStars utility.

JStars does/will record fleet movements over a period of time, but there are limitations, regarding fleets that disappear from view or get split/merged/renamed.

Before you ask, I have no idea when JStars will be at a point when I can release it. Right now it's a bug-ridden pile of poo, but I'm working on it as much as I can.

Of course, I have no idea when (if ever) Stars! exports the scanning capability of enemy fleets, which is what I really want.

I just use a calculator and calculate their best scan range based on their best known scanner, then I click the mouse wheel button on top of the fleet and draw a line out to the distance of the calculated scanner range to visualize how close I can get.

It's far from being the perfect answer, but it's enough for me. Every since someone else mentioned the mouse wheel button, I've found it very useful.
