With now 9 players, we can change map to large - now we dont have that empty and large space that troubled us several days ago. Also, starting positions now will be much closer - so it demands slightly different approach in race creation.

Greetings,
Would you have room for 1 more in this game?
This would be a first game of Stars for me. Ive played plenty of trial games(turn 2030-50~) over the last few wks, getting used to the mechanics and economy, but dont really have any interest in battling agaisnt AI so havent continued beyond there. I do have plenty of general experience with the genre/PBW.

Medium dense it is unless there are objections. 10 players is going to see major wars by turn 30. Possibly players eliminated by turn 50.
I would suggest some changes if universe stays medium. Currently I am playing in a medium universe and the dynamics are much different than the Stone age slog these rules were borrowed from since we will not be in a large universe some things are very different.
Time to grow is far more limited and some advantages are greatly diminished while others are far more pronounced, I am borrowing these rules from the game I am in since it is more similar to what we are about to start and the game rules are conceived of by players with far more experience than us.
This should have been posted right away but I did not give it much thought until I looked at some race files and compared them to my current games.
Factoryless HE is banned - Lack of stargates is minor issue and double pop growth is huge.(factoryless defined as settings below 10/?/10)
WM - 50 point penalty - yak phasers and fast tactical speed in slow tech/ weapon exp universe is major. Almost game breaking.
Joat - 25 point penalty but cannot take NAS OR 100 point penalty, players choice.
CA - 50 point penalty but cannot take TT or 200 point penalty, players choice.
I apologize if this messes up anybody, this was my bad. I should have been a more active host earlier, if there are any objections or concerns please post or email me.

Why are you giving CA such a boost? Non-TT CA is already competitive with TT CA, especially in crowded environments. And now you're planning to give them less penalty than a JoaT?!

EoF is correct, this is originally a large universe.
Ignore my last post suggesting any changes, we will leave it as it was originally, basically a repeat of stone age slog with some tweaks.
Game setup:
- Large Normal
- Distant starting positions
- No AccBBS
- No PPS
- Random events on
- Slow tech
Racial restrictions:
- JoAT (100) and CA (200) take (points) penalties - to be set to defences (unless penalty exceeded by 50 points)
- Weapons tech must be expensive
- No pre-game alliances
Playing rules:
- "Kill Starbase" battle order is banned
- Standard cheat disclaimer:
- - Split fleet/chaff/heal after gate all allowed
- - Min damage not allowed
- - - No building* alpha/beta ships after 2450, or your race has jihad tech. whichever is earlier
- - - To start a second torpedo slot on a SB the first slot must be full
* You don't have to scrap what you already have
Communications:
- In game meeting before communications allowed
I wish I knew how to edit out my last post.
