The other time is in MDI - for some odd reason rank 1 + 2 who COULD have easily wiped everyone out stopped attacking... they just slowed down and let me n Zoid (rank 4 and 3 respectively) catch up and it's reached a point where they're on the run from our bigger and better fleets.

Backstabs and lack of killer instinct are the only real things that can alter those end game situations.

Hey now wait a minute there freakydude?

Damit i dont read this forum enough...

MDI ... the games not over yet is it? (and when is a winner to be declared? theres time enough!), and my fleet counted alone is bigger than yours and zoids put together, in case you noticed while you are trying to kill a few brand new colonies of mine your whole fleet is um shall we say rather far from where you guys are gonna hurt (i.e. from my main fleet) and BTW if your fleets were so strong why did'nt you attack mine? while i'm about to kill colonies of yours and zoids ... ?

I do admit i thought we were running away a bit so i tried for some stupid reason to slow things down cause my ally #1 at that time was rampaging through space ... i felt sorry for a few AR's that were getting thier butt solidly kicked!
Ok so this is my first real multiplay with more than 3 players that are not newbies!
I did appologise to Drew for that error / "lack of gumption for the kill" as you rightly put it , so i've learnt my lesson (no more mr nice guy Twisted Evil ) ... you guys did prove to be a beter match than the other players , and hats off to zoid for tanacity ... but do you seriously think you can win? clearly your intel is a little off! Your fleet that is foraging into our space is merely an anoyance sorry to let you down...

And to all those who have read my sorry-selfpity-ing rant...
Sorry, but i just had to put the record streight!

Now i feel much better! thank-you Twisted Evil

Now to the topic, my alliance with drew was just perfect i could'nt bring myself to ending it, and i would have gladly stepped down for him to take the credit, it just so happend that my race erm shall we say ran away from him after a while! *grin* Very Happy

IMO ally wins (Where there is no specific ban on it) is great...
IMO2 an agreement to end an alliace for the sake of reducing boredom is ok too , but in MDI, (my only real refrence at the mo) being HE, and intersettled , and the TECH provider was a little too unfair so we both decided to stay allied

No... MDI isn't over yet... but it soon will be!!!

Yes you do have more ships/fleets/everything than me and zoid!!!

That's kinda my point... 1st and second place.... you could have wiped us out 3 times over by now... and yet even against such overwhelming odds I still haven't lost a single planet... and I'm AR!!!!!!!!!

It's only since me and zoid have started to attack that you guys have shown any ability to actually hurt us!!

I don't think we can we... not in the slightest... but you have to admit... it's not going as it SHOULD BE!!

I'm a (really crappy) AR race stuck in a hole with no place to go since I got stuck into a really scrappy war almost from day 1... a war in which I, and Zoid, won... a war in which all but a small handful of outer colonies were destroyed by me and zoid... a war in which you guys claimed to have won all by yourselves!! LOL.

Granted you're gonna whup me and Zoid senseless... and you lack of gumption is the only reason we're capable of even putting up a fight. But my original point remains... being ranked first doesn't mean squat until you start to express your muscle on the battlefield.

In freakyboy's defense, at the time of that writing the game did look a little different. And at that time you seemed rather averse to facing our fleets, even turning tail and running away from a fleet engagement a time or two.

Do you mean to say if we move to engage that fleet you won't run away this time? Twisted Evil We sat and built ships right next to where you were building up, and continued to build up for about 65-70 years and we got tired of sitting there guarding our planets from an attack that might never materialize, so we decided to go on the offensive ourselves.

Well, you weren't coming, and we figured we'd never catch your fleet as it retreated thru the minefields of deepspace, and we wanted to actually go somewhere and break something. Planets can't run - or can they? Every planet in attack range is suddenly got a "For Sale" sign and nothing else, barren as a desert. As for attacking "new colonies", I figured they are more worthwhile targets since they HAD lots of colonists on them and large mineral concentrations, as opposed to your old worlds which are minerally depleted. You're already max researched, so what do I care about your high-resource/minerally bankrupt "old worlds"? Besides, the new ones are right next door, your old worlds arn't.

I never felt like that was a break for us; that was a break for you to expand and research. And while I spent the next 50 years building capital missile BB's for the imminent attack that never came, you sat there and researched your techs to max. That's okay, it was probably the best thing for you to do - we were way ahead of you technology-wise at that point. You put us on the defense and then sat and researched while we abandoned research to scramble defenses. Good move. I just don't think it's worth mentioning that you "eased off the pressure to give us a fighting chance". I don't think of it as anything of the sort.

Woohoo! I'm no longer a newbie! I can change my signature disclaimer now! Laughing Thanks, TheJorrus!

I don't know. I would have conceded long ago if you'd been more aggressive, because of your size and technical superiority, but I can't say the game is clearly lost yet. I still think we COULD win, so I have to keep going until I'm convinced one way or another. That could be in another turn or so, or maybe never. After all, for all your size and technology advantages, you took a single planet from me in the last 85 years. So, it's hard to say all is lost because I know I can do more than that to you. My first pending assault and you have e
