New Game: Paranoia (All SS game)
Version: JRC3
12 to 16 players
Intermediate/Advanced
Large, Sparse (384 planets)
Distant
Max Mins
STA
Acc BBS
PPS
Victory 40% of planets or unanimous vote
Game will run on Autohost.
Turn frequency 48 hours for turns 1 to 40
72 hours thereafter.

All players will be using this predefined SS race:

SS
TT, ARM, ISB, RS
centred 1 in 14 initial hab
15% pgr
12/9/16/3g facs
12/3/15 mines
Weaps normal, rest expensive and start at 3

Players will get to choose their own race name and symbol. Places allocated on a first come first served basis. Game will start 1 week after we have 12 confirmed players.

Hiya,

Actually, now I've put that race into the race design wizard I can see you've actually put quite a lot of thought into this, it looks quite interesting indeed. Smile

However waiting until next September before we get to year 100 is quite a wait considering this game is setup to run longer than a more usual type of game. Still very interesting though!

You should also post on the Mr Stars list if you haven't already. Do you mind if I ask whether you've hosted much before?

Hi Rico,

Yes quite a bit of thought has gone in to the race design. The idea was to create a scenario which encourages remote mining (ARM + narrow hab) in an environment in which small hunter killer fleets are viable due to the inherent cloaking available and poor scanner ranges - hence the paranoia Smile

Yes this will be a fairly slow game, but from extensive experience I can assure you that it will certainly be fast enough for the main contenders by mid/late game once the skirmishing starts in earnest. I may optionally run the first 20 turns every 24 hours if all players agree.

I have hosted and played in a lot of games in the past, but this will be my first game for about 2 years.

The game sounds interesting... However, I'm pretty much a complete beginner in terms of online play. I have no problem reading up on hyper producer strats and such to try to catch up, but how much of a disadvantage will I be at lacking experience?

Heh... well, never mind... I just reread the description, and saw the "Intermediate/Advanced" label... I guess I'll go looking for a game slightly more in my ballpark.

I have made a few tweaks to the race design to reduce final hab width and make remote mining even more attractive. Initial hab is now 1 in 40 and TT has been dropped. The race now looks like this:

SS
IFE, ARM, ISB, RS
shifted 1 in 40 no immune with 17% pgr
1/1000 12/9/16/3g facs
10/3/13 mines
bio expensive, the rest normal

I'm looking to kick this game off in mid January, and there are still 11 positions available. Game will runs with 24 hours turns until 2440 then go to 48 hours until 2480.

You're in K9, and your race symbol is now reserved for you. Ten places still available in this game. I will go with a minimum of 8 players. If the game starts with less than 10 players universe size will be medium sparse (216 planets).

Do we all have exactly the same hab? You said it's 1 in 40 hab, but you didn't say whether they're all the same.

(By the way . . . 1 in 14 with TT to 1 in 40 without TT? Why such a drastic change?)

Hi Hyena,

Yes you are in - we now have 6 players. Everyone is using an identical race design. The hab was reduced significantly and TT was dropped so that even with full terraforming tech about half the planets will always be red. This will encourage the need to remote mine, reduce the likelihood of monster empires and add additional strategy options to the game IMO.
