Last call for players. A new game with a different twist. If interested in playing let me know.

"Random Plagues" Not for the feint of heart.
Every 5 years a random plague/malfunction will be applied across the galaxy. One of the following will be enforced at random for a 5 year period.

All research must be set to zero.
All freight movement banned, any freight in space is jettisoned.
All warship movement banned, any ship in space must be destroyed if still in space after 2nd year of plague.
All trading banned, any trade ships must be destroyed.
All war activity on hold. No bombing, attacking, pop dropping, unterraforming, packets on enemy, etc.
All ships not permitted to exceed warp 5.
All ship building must be removed from production.
All factory & mine production must be set to zero.
All ships only allowed to travel one vertical and one horizontal direction, like north and east, or south and east, or north and west, or south and west.
All mine laying stopped.
All gates closed.
All packets forbidden.
A time warp. Gens jump at random 2 to 5 years up to the 5 year plague period.

Plagues will start in years 6, 11, 16, etc. and will continue for 5 years.

Host will not play. Host will try to make sure rules are obeyed. All race files must be submitted with passwords to host. Each discovered rule violation will be punished with loss of a ship or something of value depending on how many violations occur. Punishments will be posted in public announcements.

Winner is last race standing or by vote.
Medium galaxy, normal, distant, acc bbs.
Any race can play.

Already seven bravehearts have stepped up to challenge the Plague. Are there more who dare? Nod

Instead of trying to make sure rules are followed, it would be more realistic (and drive your players insane) for them to simply upload their turns to you and you open them and have your way with them before you generate the next year. You could even run the game via Autohost as long as players understand that YOU are responsible for submitting their turns (although it would be a hassle to upload each password, unless as host you changed all the upload passwords - which would then prevent players from uploading their turns anyway).

Imagine the frustration of opening your brand spanking new turnfile and discovering that you lost all planetary production...Hey Turb, from now on your nickname has to be Uncle Nasty.

EDog, by calling him uncle nasty I assume you are going to cheat? Otherwise why would you call him nasty? Very Happy

Laughing You're so freakyboy. Cheating will be difficult to do with the host checking all turnfiles before the game generates. Razz EDog calls me nasty, because he played me before? But he doesn't know it. Twisted Evil Rolling Eyes

But this game will probably never happen. Ain't enough brave warriors in all the galaxies to fill the pot of the Plague. Whimps, whimps, too many whimps and not enough comets! Very Happy

Cheating will be difficult. Exactly. Hence anyone cheating will be caught and will refer to you a nasty.

And I'll play but only if the turn gens aren't too often. I took on a few games recently that are a bit turn intensive.

I would expect turns to be reasonably long, as host would have to do a lot of checking. More players, more work to do. Probably after the first 20 years or so, 48 hours would be a good idea. You think? But again, I don't think there are enough brave warriors to take on the Plague. They prefer hiding behind their chaff, or sitting in their factories eating Draknoid spud-chips dipped in tastertur sauce, and wouldn't dare take on the shaft of Nasty the Plague Master. Very Happy

Oww. Sounds like you would have a lot of work ahead in the latter stages of the game. Make empire micro management look easy. But I am game cause I don't think that turns could be generated quickly from the mid game on.

Count me in! Are you going to start before christmas? When do you want the race files, are there any specific race limitations other than being innoculated against plagues? Wink

This sounds wonderfully maddening and I think a large amount of fun. It will be so nice to see the attack fleet that is about to wipe out my homeworld be casually removed from the universe by a plague! Evil or Very Mad

Heres a thought...
pick a (centralish? non homeworld?)planet and keep track of ships that visit it and kill them off after x(5?) years...noting which ships/planets they come into contact with, who also die after x years. not at all random I know...but could be very terrifying.

~/ hmm....my scout died... was it a random event? was it that planet 4 turns ago? was it that enemy scout? the minefield? that colony?

perhaps a healer ship with a very specific design, requiring a reasonable level of research of course...probably defenceless, certainly unarmed...
