Battle Orders?

Does anyone remember how the current battle orders came about?

And is there anywhere that they're explained, I can't find anything about them in the help files. Seems the only option I ever use is Maximize damage.

Its described in the original Stars "rulesbook" which is delivered with Stars.

Guess you already read the basic info in-game help file?

Select a ship. go to ship composition window and click on "Battle Plan:" then scroll up to top or click on "Battle Plans..."
then in new window click on help to get descriptions of different types in Players Guide. Confused

Regarding maximize damage don't use it for you missile ships if they are also equiped with beams (like missile BBs with sappers in the two rear slots) it will make them move towards the enemy beamers instead of staying out of range as long as possible.

However if you mix range2 and range3 weapons on your beamers you have to use maximize damage, else the ships will try to only use their range3 weapons ...
