I'm not here to tell you how to make one - everyone should know. I'm not even going to bring some new light on the subject, because I think CA monsters have been done to death.
I'm just wondering what everyone's best resource count by 2450 is using a CA with accel BBS turned on.
Max mins on = 72k
Max mins off = 62k
What's everyone elses best?
If there's anything truely outstanding (like enough to impress Barry Kearns) then I'd be interested in race design, but for the time being just resource count cheers. Anyone with above 75k man mins on or 70k max mins off then please post your race.

Last scored that in a galaxy that was *not* pre-scanned. And all of these designs are a couple of years old as well. [I need to update my spreadsheet of race designs. ]

"Broken". I wouldn't play it in a normal game whereas the other two I'd at least consider.
A variant of the "Testbed Terrors" were loaned out to Xdude for one of his games. Tweaked for slightly better minerals and hab if I recall correctly in exchange for slightly less impressive factories (or I might have sacrificed the 1/900 efficiency).

I've never found the 1/900 setting worth the points. A higher growth rate or hab range always seemed to pay off better.
As for the broken race, if you can get it upto 100k by 2440 then why not use it in a game? You'd just need to dump 50% of resources into research and it'd pay itself off. I did a similar thing with a JOAT race that was huge on resources.

Sotek wrote on Thu, 04 September 2003 05:44 | Look at those mine settings.
They're *broken*.
Plus the race wouldn't be able to afford to defend early expansion. A nearby QS or -f could shut it down quick simply by hitting it hard before it can get TT up and colonies spread.
|
I believe the variant lent out to Xdude was used in a largish (understatement) galaxy and therefore was granted sufficient expansion time to get established.
One thing to consider when settings will guarantee "peace time" is to select more expensive tech settings in exchange for better economy and hab values. Once max tech is reached every one is on the same basis. Depends on how fast you want to get there -- and how you wish to pay for it; using either resources or race wizard points.

Steve did you miss the words "when settings will guarantee peace time"???
Taking all expensive is a bad idea if you're going to have early wars. If you can get away with it though then do it. Cheap techs mean nothing end game.

Ah so you're talking about a game of so many years gen before war is allowed.
Yes quite right, I did miss your point there.
Certainly under those circumstances, if the timeframe is long enough, then +75% in most or all fields would be most prudent.
Apologies for the misunderstanding.

It's a valid point though.
At least weapons cheap and construction normal is needed in order to have a race that wont get trampled by 2435.

IMHO, research settings (like expensive weapons or construction) also depends on the galaxy size and density (like large packed or huge dense).
When I first started playing, I used an HG CA (and very strong factories) with all tech set to +75% (start at 3 checked) and was very successful. Now I wasn't using TT but I found that as long as I had plenty of room and planets, that I could have 2 to 3 times as many resources by 2480 as the average player so I could hold my own in research with my abundance of resources. Plus, early in the game, I had more tech than anybody since I started with 21 levels of tech.
I also usually can get any tech I want from a neighbor in exchange for researching some tech they had expensive (which I could do very fast with my resources) plus my willingness to park OAs over their planets.
I love the diplomacy so as long as you can make friends, have something to offer, have a good reputation for being trustworthy and treat your allies fairly, you can get weapons and const from your friends if you need it. Avoiding war till the BB era makes this type of race very strong.

True enough.
I first started playing with a 15% HP IT race. Not something that stuck around after I gave up playing the AI.
You don't see enough HP races now-a-days.
Anyway... I'd probably take 5 expensive techs and 1 normal/cheap still today if it wasn't for all these -F races knocking around which can rip you up quickly if you're not careful.

in a game (AccBBS) I had 62k in 2450 (#2 had 33k) with this race:
IFE, NRSE, ISB, OBRM, NAS, RS (yeah I know... a bit much).
0,58 5,60
-144 80
15 47
19%
12/9/16. 10/3/13 mines
weap/cons cheap, rest espensive
tech in 2450: 11/19/12/14/7/7 with only trading was 2 levels of prop.
I hadn't may friends in this game
In 2475 I had 218K (#2 190k, also CA) with tech at 22/26/16/26/19/8. I was beginning to build nub's (I had about 500 of them, 50 ARMnub's and 120 old BB's).
btw LOVING the new smilies!
I've been gone for quite some weeks now, ya know

After reading several threads about CA, I guess my CA (which just allowed me to win "Together Reload" team game) is poor enough (I'm still beginner), but just for example:
PRT: CA
LRT: IFE, TT, NRSE, OBRM, LSP
G: 0,55 1,80, T: -80 80, R: 30 70
GR: 19% (1 in 12)
1\1000, 13\9\13, 1kt less, 13\3\13
Bio less, other extra
No start at tech 3
I feel comfortable with extra tech, as I use tech trading with allyes and also have no problem with minerals.
I had about 20k in 2450 and about 125k in 2500.
