I've never hosted a game and I'd like to try...

Since there's such interest in the AR thread I thought an all AR game might do quite well.

Medium normal or Small Dense will be the galaxy of choice.

Players upto 9 (8 of you guys and I'd play an observer race... probably JOAT so you all know not to attack me!!!)

Accel BBS on
Public player scores at 2490.

Winner decided by domination, vote to end, or by rank in the year 2500 (giving 10 years for the players to know who's winning and to rip them apart).

max 1 player set to ally.

Chaff allowed, split fleet ABUSE is banned (it's ok to split and run but any blatent abuse will be persecuted).

E-mail passworded races (with the password provided) to "barry at thefreakshow.org.uk" replace the " at " with @ just incase you didn't understand Very Happy

Hi!
I'd like to apply for this game, but that one I'm currently in takes 3 hours for a turn to be done. Confused (it's hard to be at the top Smile )
But anyway, may I suggest one nice feature: ban of the "Attack starbase" battle order?

yes, this will make an AR more viable, because I belive the order of battle is this,

1: attack closest armed ships
2: attack Starbase
3: attack closest unarmed ships

since unarmed ships are always disengaging, they are always last to be targeted.

I would be intrested however current life status forbids me to play in a game that requires alot of MM, but I might regret not cause there was a game called "we are all the same" that had all AR and I got my race in too late Sad

Good plan.

Kill starbase orders are banned. Anyone found using them will have all their miners destroyed by deleting the design so they wont even get the minerals back!!!!

The game will start as soon as enough players are found.

The generations will be every 48 hours (my own RW issues prevent me from doing anything in the 24 hour scale stars! wise Crying or Very Sad )

48 hours I can do, I also suggest you make the universe a med dense or larger, to allow us time to get a moderate defense. good penalty by the way, I suggest you have a neutral third party come in and delete the design or designs. Ummm, are you playing as well? if so please get a nuetral third party to check races.

I was planning on playing an observer race. I'd also have access to everyone's turns.

I planned to make a sweet little video of how each race expanded and a timeline report etc....

This way I'd have to have access to everyone turns, which in turns allows me to spot kill starbase orders - but everyone should still watch their starbase attractiveness (if your SB is more attractive... tough its your own fault).

I wanted to play no bigger than a medium galaxy to make sure that in those last 10 turns every single race remaining will have the ability to have some effect on the final outcome.

Before anyone asks I'll be generating several galaxies to ensure that the middle race in the 3x3 (hence 9 races wanted) set up will be the observer (a OWW JOAT race).

I want to do this so I can look at how different AR races perform. I'm going to post a report at the end of the game with some minor details about the race (gr, lrts and starting hab - e.g. 17%, IFE + TT, 1/4 hab) and how they performed.

Every turn will be backed up in a folder (for each turn - 2400, 2400, etc...) which will be zipped and mailed to the player who wants to analyse their own race performance.

This is another reason for the 48 hour generations!!!

Anyone who requests that their race information+turns not be given out will have this information kept secret.

Medium normal or medium sparse would be the better options.

I don't want to give everyone too long to develop defenses since the game is ending in 2500.

1. Agreed.
2. An all AR game ensure that an AR race WILL win!!!
3. 2500 is the end point... I hate games where everyone sits around the campfire until nubians.
4. Diplomacy is one of my fav parts of Stars... it's also the one that can ruin a game (everyone is everyone's friend) the easiest.
5. RW - real world. You know... jobs, bills, friends, family, weddings... all those things that don't really matter when it's 3:20am and you're not going to bed because you wanna test this that or the other for the stars! game you're playing in and lets face it... addicted to!
6. Extras: it's one thing I've found missing from games. Sure it's nice to look back over YOUR race and see how YOU did... but since this is all AR then everyone can look at everyone elses games and see what they did, what they didn't and hopefully learn from experience and example. Plus I think it'd be interesting to mull over a game properly as a group rather than just on your own.
7. Good idea... maybe for the next game I play (or if there's enough interest) I might have a "seat of power" game where there's one central world that whoever owns it in x year is the winner... Whoever owns it cannot have allies or NAPs and they also have the fact that they own it announced to the whole galaxy kind of thing. That could be good fun.

It's going to sound like a really dumb thing to say because I know it's part and parcel of playing stars! (much to everyone else in the games disappointment - and yes i've done it myself a few times too many over the years) but I really don't want to have to write in the timeline "X player of X race dropped out on this turn" Crying or Very Sad

btw - 2 races received. 6 spaces remain. Micha you've got plenty of time to put in a race if you want to. It's be nice to host a game for you for a change Very Happy - warning... if you don't play I will probably come to you for advice since you've been the best host I've had recently.

Bzzt, wrong answer! Twisted Evil

1. Stars! copy protection won't let two people play in the same game with the same serial number from different computers.

2. Stars! players are notoriously protective of their serial numbers mainly because of #1 above, and because they like the game so much.

Good luck getting a pirated serial number, as I seriously doubt anyone here will share one with you.

You could always buy one legally, as I recall they're around US$7.00 or so. (I *think* that was what it translated into from Euro's or Finnish money.)

Sounds fun! Count me in. Very Happy

Since most of my AR race designs seem to fly against accepted theory Embarassed, AND I've not played a multiplayer game of Stars! before, I'll probably get whooped. But I'm looking forward to the lesson. Twisted Evil

I'm still trying to figure out the right race, but I'll send it to you soon(ish).

"King of the hill", but I like the suggestion that the player owning the planet can't have any allies etc. Smile

Well, since you're a non-playing host you can hold all passwords in case someone drops out.

1. "King of the hill" games are fun. Especially when the one who takes the planet is the one who can no longer have any allies. It's interesting because you have judge both your ability to attack the planet AND your ability to defend it. Just to note though that the only game like this I played in was plagued by a seriously devious SS player. The turn before the winner was declared he launched a warfleet he'd spent the entire game ammassing. Set all his freighters to waypoint 1 drop. That was it... turn generated and the game was stolen from an IS player who had held the planet for the last 7 years. Which is why from now on at the point when a winner can be declared a race must own the planet for set number of turns... this is fun because, if for example they have to hold the planet for 4 turns then on the 5th one, you get a massive desperate battle to deprive the owner of the planet in a final bid to keep the game alive. After this game is over I may look into hosting/playing such a game again.

2. I indeed plan to hold the passwords and to *hopefully* find replacements for any drop outs. But *hopefully* there wont be any.

I've never found skill indicators to be of value. To be honest in every game there is someone who over-rates his skill and someone who under-rates it.

Plus this is an all AR game, of which I don't think there have been a huge number of. It's easy to design the usual races.. but how about an AR designed to tear up another AR?

True, but somebody saying "this is my first multiplayer game" should set off an alarm. Wink

There have been a few all AR games, one not that long ago.
I've been in a game with all AR once with two friends, it was the first AR experience for all of us. One of my friends however designed his race to be exactly an "AR to tear up another AR", he was good (or the other two of us were that bad Grin ), sadly I never got to see his race design. Sad

Well so far no-one has said it's their first game.

EDog has sent in a race so with you and him there are at least 2 veterans in the game (despite the fact that neither of you are hardcore AR players that I know of).

It'd be nice to get Apelord to play... if he still reads this forum.

we now have 5 races in.... only 3 to go!!!
