I'm terribly confused Crying I keep seeing hosts say "no cheating" in their game descriptions.

What does 'not cheating' actually mean... Sherlock

I've looked at the sticky post above, but I've also heard ppl describe some other 'abuses' not listed there - like a IS 'load colonists manually and drop as WP1 order' abuse to get extra pop growth (or something similar.... I haven't tried it)

I'm guessing most ppl would define the above 'strategy' as 'cheating', since it involves having your population growth evaluated TWICE per turn... Hit over head But if the game allows it... Wall Bash

Do I have to persuade every game host to compile a comprehensive list of every banned abuse/strategy at the start of every game... Crazy

Looking at the order of events I don't think the IS pop growing twice is possible.
1. Waypoint 0 tasks.
2. IS pop in freighters grows.
3. planetary pop growth.
4. waypoint 1 tasks.

Anyway...

Cheats not allowed.
Minefield NS/EW abuse.
Cheap Starbase abuse
memory hax
UR/CE scrapping
Battleboard overload
0.2% min damage
False public player scoring
mineral upload
Target list overload

They're the general "no no's" of stars! More info in the sticky about bugs.

Chaff and split fleet dodge are *usually* specified seperately by the host.

Cheap Starbase abuse

For some reason I could not get this to work when I tried to verify it. Can you please explain exactly how this works.

First of all you cant abuse IS in fleet growth.

The only thing you can do is put a full freighter in orbit,
say 100.000pop. then they grow - lets assume you got a rate of 20%, which means 10% in freighters, which means 10.000pop will be dropped to the surface where they grow again, say by 20%.
that means you got 12% growth instead of 10% growth in freighters.
also it means you got12% growth instead of say 20% growth on suface (100% planet below 25% capacity).

so in this very special settings you can make the pop grow slightly faster, but still it is slower than on the surface.
so it is a trade-off anyway between production and growth, and everybody has to decide how to do this, the IS just has an advantage because of in fleet growth... thats why you play IS.

you dont get it growth twice - just the excess population...

there are much worse cheats...

and i wount explain the cheap starbase trick in public Smile

if you can't get it to work.... GOOD.

The less hacks/cheats that people can do... the better.

Thanks, I guess I should've trusted the sticky thread Embarassed

How do ppl enforce the 'no cheating'? Honour? For example, short of the host opening the turn files up how would you tell if some1 used the cheap starbase dodge?

(I wanna know so I don't start firing off false accusations when I start getting my arse kciked Wink

The ONLY time I've ever seen anyone accused of cheating the game was put on hold, turns and passwords and all files handed to a 3rd party. The 3rd party would then judge if cheating was involved and then assign a punishment accordingly.

Good thing is most stars! players are trust worthy and honest. At worst case they'll use cruisers for chaff in a no chaff game or they'll split 1 warship from a fleet to attack a much larger pursuing fleet and then be accused of split fleet dodge.

Very Happy Well, it's good to know it's not a problem.

It looked so easy to cheat I was worried it might have become a problem, the thought of it was putting me off playing.

Now I'm gagging Puke2 to start a game!
