I want to start a game that is a normal huge universe game. The rules will be no strange or tricky strategies making use of bugs or apparent oversights of the creators. JRC3 Patch will be used. No CA or PP races. There will be random encounters (Mystery Traders). Players will form alliances in teams of three (or four if we have all 16 players), so I need at least 6 people to start play. I will begin this game on Monday, August 11. All interested should email me at tomt64ATusersDOTsfDOTnet by Midnight Pacific Time (GMT -8 usually, but due to savings time is -7 against UTC for those who do not observe such time changes in the summer) on August 11, that means you have all day Sunday my time to get an email to me. Emails should include race file. Turns will be generated and sent out on one of three schedules:

1) Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday
2) Every weekday, no weekends (all except Saturday and Sunday)
3) Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday

Please indicate your preference in your email to me. If you absolutely CANNOT have one of these schedules, indicate that as well. I will go with the most preferences, and if you cannot have that then you will not be able to play.

Also if you are willing to be a backup host let me know that too.

... why no PP?

And what qualifies as 'strange or tricky'?

Does chaff?
Split fleet dodge?

Most of the other 'cheats' are reasonably obviously strange and/or tricky, but chaff and split fleet aren't nearly as obviously so.

And will the teams be allowed to coordinate and plan race design ahead of time?

Because I don't like PP 8>)

No split fleet dodge and no chaff.

>And will the teams be allowed to coordinate and plan race design ahead of time?

Yes, once we have the teams you can collaborate in any way you wish.

This game will use no rules, so it's last team standing. Your team cannot be changed and no backstabbing. I'll need proof of any allegation, which requires that I be shown your files, so be really sure of what you're accusing someone of first.

Also, here are more specs

Huge Universe
JRC3 Patch
Accelerated BBS Play
Public Player Scores

etc.

So far I'm very confused about what this game's rules are.

I'd recommend you clearly detail what is and isn't allowed.

Also, I'd really recommend you make the universe much smaller, with PBEM a huge game is going to last over a year, assuming you don't get a lot of people dropping, which is a real danger.

Rules are as such:

No chaff or split fleet dodge, and no strange or tricky ways of playing (such as avoiding a minefield other than reducing speed, or somehow hacking the game, etc.)

That seems fairly clear. Other than that it is last team standing.

Also we can discuss further alterations to the game (such as universe size) when I have enough players.

Deadline is extended to Friday, don't forget to email tomt64ATusersDOTsfDOTnet to join (don't just post here)!

My race file should be on its way.

Is this a advanced players game or are there also beginners in a game?

I'd love to join a huge universe game, but I'm wary of predetermined teams. What if my teammate starts colonizing planets that I want? You could get stuck with a real jerk on your team and not be able to do anything about it.

Any level skill can join.

Also, with teammaes, since we have 3 or 4, you can make races BEFOREHAND that make it so you can all get certain planets. Coordination will happen as you wish beforehand, teams are determined by order of joining. So far, 4 players including myself. I have not yet downloaded races in case ppl change their minds.

Not to my knowledge. Huge games do not start just so in a week.

The game has not started, I only have 5 players who emailed me. If you have not emailed me, please do so. I will only start the game once I have enough players with emails.

Also when I reply the email I send from may be different.

I would like to join this game. You should be receiving my email soon. However I am confused Confused2 you say that you want our race files now, but you also say that we will be able to collaborate race design with our teammates. I am unsure how this will work. Perhaps, you can explain.

As I review this I am thinking that in a game with no chaff an AR would have a much better chance of surviving. I am tempted to play an AR race, but I think that I will not.

Also, this will be my first PBEM game with people that I do not know. All of my other experience is with players that I talked to almost every day.

Ok guys,

I now have 6 players who have emailed me. tomt64ATusersDOTsfDOTnet is my email. I will email back from another email address. Once the game starts I will be using yet another address to send the turns, and I will want you to email me back at that address. To ease the confusion,

1) Email me at tomt64ATusersDOTsfDOTnet if you have not and are interested in joining so I have your email address
2) Expect a reply from adamttATcomcastDOTnet
3) Expect turns to come from tomt64ATtomt64DOTcom once the game has started. I will email you all (who have emailed me) from this address when I am ready to start.

Since we have 6 players, there is enough to start a 3v3 team game. But I am going to wait for people to email me who are interested in joining until Friday, August 29. On the weekend I will gatehr together the emails and send out an email. If the number joining happens to be a prime number (7, 11, 13) I will wait for more to join. If this happens I will post here. The goal is to have (if possible) 4 teams of 3 or 4 each. If this cannot be done we will divide the teams evenly between joined players.

If you are confused and are interested in joining, email me, because this board is not something I look at often.

Oh yeah, and you don't have to email your race files until we are ready to start. I made a mistake in saying that. But I haven't looked at them anyway.

Count me in.

This'll be my first multiplayer game of Stars! (ever... no, really...), and it's been a few years, but I reckon I can still hold my own.

I've emailed you to join.

Cheers,

Joe/Dogthinkers

I was just wondering...of the current players that are signed up, what is your multiplayer experience with Stars!? I noticed that there are a few first timers and I was just curious what the overall experince is.

Personally, I have played more than ten games, but that was all with my friens so that is different. This, as I said before, will be my first PBEM game with people that I don't know.

This is my first multiplayer game. I'm not afraid of the computers (except those high difficulty HE races, they sometimes run away with the game... The computer is pretty good at sending out gazillions of colony ships...)

Ummm, can you randomise the teams.... I'm guessing the veteran players check the forum more often, so are likely to have joined earlier.... I bet the last 4-5 to join will all be newbies like me Sad

If people quote their experience, I think it would be a great idea to make sure there's 1 advanced player on each team.

I was thinking something along the same lines. If you have a team of veterans against even three teams of newbies, nine times out of ten the veterans will come out on top.
