Dear Friends

I'm new to stars but have a question which could sound like a accusation which it is not intended to be.
I'm currently playing in a large game on auto-host.
I have chosen basic mining and jack of all trades for the 30% increase in population for my race.
I have a player next to me who is IT and i can see six of his planets, the game year is 52 years and he already has 1 million
more people than me and tech level 17 in weapons. He may have more planets with even more peeps.
Is this normal?

Kind Regards

Wendopaulo

Those sneaky ITs!!!

Chances are he has a single immunity (probably temp). If so, his green planets are a lot better than yours (if you have no immunities).

See which hab fields are terrirormed and that will tell the story.

Since he is IT, he will be able to manage his pop and minerals a lot easier than you.

What's you're growth rate? If he's 20% growth, and you're 17%, this is to be expected. Plus he could have many more planets than you, which makes for more population as well.

It means you're max pop on planets is 30% higher than others w/o obrm, not that the /increase/ is 30% extra! to my knowledge alot of people choose obrm (bit O/T), so it's actually a bit less than 30%.

just a little old story:

AccBBS, Huge (I'll never do that again!), CA (I'll never do that again either; just to easy to monsterize. Don't play in games where they're allowed IMHO... Oops, O/T again), 11 players.
playing year 2452: 108 planets, tech at 11/21/12/14/8/7, resources 73k.

Not to boast or anything ( Angel I suck at diplomacy, and that's one of the major parts of stars! Had to give away this game due to timeconstraints btw), but it is how you play a race (designing them can be a pain too though). If you go out colonizing right away (in my first game I build colonizers from year 2401, I think; Don't!) or make some other normal mistakes, you are falling behind more advanced players (not to dish you, had to learn it the hard way myself!).

Read in the Stars Strategy Guide or articles (www.starsfaq.com springs to mind; have you already read the articles on our beloved AHF?) how to boost your economy and manage your people and their growth.

One small rule of thumb: Don't let your planets grow above 33% (you get maximum growth in numbers) capacity in the early years...
Build factories (if not -f ofcourse Wink ) and mines, instead of 'useless' warvessels.
As someone used to put it:"Econ -> research -> big shiny guns."!

Good luck against the IT (you got to love those bastards Wink I do!).

yes is this is very possible, even more so if its a -f IT, who can gate pop quite well might I add, and with enough planets and time could get a world to 100% pop in no time flat.

After 52 turns, enourmous differences are down right expected, moreso in beginner games.

There's probably a player out there with twice your resources, and another out there with half.

Assuming that your opponent isn't new to Stars! like yourself then you are probably lucky to have him only 1 mil ahead of you and at tech 17.

Some of the good players, of which I am not by any stretch of the imagination, would have gotten a totals much higher than this with the "monster races" that they play.

Don't worry though, after you get more experince under your belt you may be the one that the future newbies are asking questions about.
