IIRC you can insert new pictures with Stuarts StarEd, which you can find at the Pirates Retreat in the Hangar.
But everybody in the game should have that same modified version, and you can't use AutoHost if you do ...

Hmmm.... Okay... I WAS going to tell you a story.... That would answer all your questions.. But... Hmmm I dunno the program I use to edit graphics is capable of doing a LOT more than graphics. Though, most of what it CAN do asside from graphics or sound files (yeah all 6 of them) isn't likely to matter TOO much.. Though... I dunno, gotta play with it some more.
Anyway, if you want I'll take any ship pictures for ya and import them. I'll even be a sport and export the graphics for you people. Then I'll write up something to apply the changes you want. And something to unapply the changes as well. Anyone like that idea?
I wonder why Verker never released his graphics tool? Perhaps he wanted to be the only kid on the block with one? Or.. Something... I dunno..
I'm going to release most of the graphics as they appear in the game. You can tweak them and send them back and I'll make some execs for you.. And as a special bonus, I thought it would be fun to jazz up those stupid triangle ships in the battle board. They look a bit smaller because they use less pixels.. But they actually LOOK like ships now! (Note: I didn't include the stuff I edited to make those ships.. just an FYI.)

Have fun!
P.S. (It would be nice if you told me what exec version and the file size in bytes was you wanted modded. Just to make sure I write for the right exec.)

Ya know, if I tell you, I really think someone ought to make some web space for "Graphic Mods" of Stars.. Course if I DIDN'T TELL you then you'd have to run the GFX through me which means I could be that person I've already got every Stars utility plus a few I made myself on my little webspace.. Haven't put up that program yet.. Slip of the mind I guess.
Well sending me the exec DOES mean I'll have it right. Course, 2.6JRC3 is one I'm lacking, I've got 2.7JRC3. And 2.6JRC4 and 2.70i , and for stupid fun 1.1 (Which is WAY different in some places, like the beam weapons used to have upto RANGE 11!!! Which REALLY made some battle interesting.)
Oh and about that ship edit, ALL the ships (except the one you select) use the same graphic, it's a 1 bit image, with 8 angles for 100% zoom or closer and 8 more for 75% and out. I left the zoomed out as triangles, seemed best.
I could probably... Assuming there's only a few different execs I have to write for, I could make a flexible thing that could auto detect based on file size. (XP only, drag and drop style useage.) Or... Something.

I came up with a good way (I think) to post the files. Taubat sent me some race icon changes and after implementing them, to save space, I used a program called "QuickPar", to let me in effect post (more or less) just the changes. It also backsup the old file automatically. QuickPar has other uses as well, I'm just exploiting an aspect of its function. At the moment my webspace is... Simply a place where I drop off files. I can provide QuickPar so you can install the Par2 files to alter the execs to your spesifications. Though it WILL only work with 1 particular kind of exec, and each par file WILL only alter an exec in a particular kind of way. Space wise a ~100k file is a MUCH more efficient thing to post than a whole exec, which compresses to ~1,000k.
But yeah um... Deaghlan.. Just send me the graphics, and you want the 2.6JRC4 exec modded? ok. However that version does not have any sound FX in it, at all. 2.7JRC3 does, and is perfectly compatible with autohost. 2.6JRC4 or just JRC4 for short, is (IMO) better as a serverside exec, than a client/server side exec. And as such, Graphical alterations would have 0 impact on it's compatability with other non GFX modded clients. But I'll mod that exec if that's what you want.
As it stands, I'm withholding the name of the program I use to edit the GFX to help produce a single GFX mod site... The unfortunate result is if you wanted, you'd have to ask me to merge say 2 mods together for you. Where as otherwise with the prog you could on your own, and I'd just accept the raw bmp's. (Though in most games, you don't GET much option to simply get mods merged. So this is still a bit of a plus for you guys.)
Anyway, you know my email.. feel free to pass along any changes you want, with the information of "Exec version" (as precise as can be) and the graphics files you want to replace whatever with. (using the same image names I used means you can alter ALL the images and I'll still know where to plop the new images into.)
Hope to see some nice art from you guys! (Oh and if anyone wants I can release the 6 sounds of stars! An epic saga of short noises that are guaranteed to irritate all your coworkers unto violence after the 1st half hour of repeated looping in winamp!)

No no, you don't need to do that, just tell what exec and send me the.... Actually, well I'm going to give you the changes using Quick Par.. Cause it takes less space than sending the whole exec.
Email me the Stars Ed file (though it's not really nessessary), and the graphics, and I'll:
A) put both in and par the exec and give you a link to the par file and Quick Par so you can apply the changes.
or B) I just apply the graphic changes send the link to the par and quick par program, and let you apply it to a fresh exec and apply the stars ed mod file after. Either way is fine.
