Announcing a new game with a unique game type
First the settings
ACC BBS On
Public player Scores at year 70
Tech Normal
Distance Farthest
Galaxy Huge Packed
Universe will be reshaped
The universe will be reshaped to be the form of the Star Control Time Warp Universe. (Star Control: Time Warp universe is the SC2 universe plus an extension around the edge, Time Warp is a third party "clone" that some people should look into if they really liked star control) A copy of the map is available here:
http://m.fithian.home.mchsi.com/const.jpg
This is with constellation markings added, when generating the map, constellation lines and text will of course be removed.
Game Rules
The game will be a Stars! recreation of the heated war featured in the game Star Control. Of course things could turn out much differently.
Players Will be split into two teams, The Hierarchy and The Alliance of Free Stars. Player numbers will be randomized, Odd players Hierarchy, even players Alliance. It is suggested that all those playing have an IM and be able to communicate with their teammates.
The goal will to be for one side to conquer the other's races. To conquer a race, one side must maintain orbital superiority over another race's homeworld for 3 years. If, after 3 years, the player cannot repel the aggressors in orbit, they have one of two options, they can bow out and leave the game, or they can become battle thralls for the conquering race, and switch sides.
A race can only switch sides twice, on the third time they will be forced to leave the game. This means that you can try to liberate a fallen comrade, however if after liberation they are reconquered, the conquering side will not be as tolerant and eradication will be enforced.
If you do not want a race to become a battle thrall, you can, of course, not give them either option and just eradicate their whole race, but I would like the battle thrall system to put a bit of a twist to the team game.
Winning Conditions
Either, the first team to control 75% of the worlds
or
More than 2/3 of the opposing team votes to surrender
Note to IT and PP, because the universe will be reshaped, your second world could be anywhere from right next door to several thousand Ly away, so realize the fact you may not have the advantage of two close together worlds.
The host will be playing, so please pw your race files when you send them to Okram2k@mail.mc.maricopa.edu
Any questions?
PS: you don't have to use SC race names, if you want to you are welcome to of course, and role playing is always welcome.

Sounds interesting indeed. Yet a few questions ...

Ouch, huge packed.

How many players total (or per team)?
So no race design in coordination with teammates?
Teams not placed together?

Not sure if I understand this correct: if you control orbit of ONE world of the 70-80 (huge packed, maybe even 100) a race has for 3 years than you have conquered that race??
ALL worlds? All 70-80? Well, if teammates are not together this might be possible early in game ...
Quote: | Note to IT and PP, because the universe will be reshaped, your second world could be anywhere from right next door to several thousand Ly away, so realize the fact you may not have the advantage of two close together worlds.

IMHO having your two worlds close is a DISadvantage for IT ...
Ban them
Yes.

Players will be determined by how many people join, I'm hoping at least 10 players, so at least 5 per team. No Race coordination, and temas will not be placed together (In the star control universe they where not placed together eiter)

I'm sorry for not making it clearer, Their Home World

With 10 players it stays huge/packed? ...

Don't know that universe, but if it was there like that it makes sense ...
Wouldn't be surprised though if you saw all ITs showing up ...

I'm really wanting to have a full game of 16 players.
If necesary we can downsize to a portion of the map for a medium game if need be.

How about something in between huge and medium, like large. Maybe if you have 10 to 12 you use a large, 13+ huge and <10 is medium.

Count me in then, although I must admit I know nothing of space control. Is it a game, book, comic or something?

Anybody know of anyone who would be able to play? I'd like at least 10 players to start. Currently I have 5 Races ready to go, half of what I'd like.
