Ready for a new game?
At least Platon seems to be As I said in my reply to his post, I owe a debt of gratitude to the hosts of the last games I've played in. (Shoutout to m9m and Victor Manuel!) So now I'll pay my dues and offer a game myself.
The Blues
(The name is completely arbitrary. Just happens to be the kind of music I like.)
Number of players:
I'd like to find room for everybody interested. However, extremely large games can get a little tedious. So I'll limit the game to eight players. If there are more people interested, I'll offer two parallel games with identical setup.
Universe size:
Determined by the number of players. I'm aiming for about 35 planets per player and will choose the universe size accordingly. So for a game of eight as mentioned above, I'd go for Medium, Normal.
The universe will not be remapped, stretched or fiddled with in any other way.
Game Settings:
All game settings will be left unmarked, with the exception of "Accelerated BBS Play".
Universe size will be determined as described above.
Player positions will be set to "Distant".
Turns:
Turns will generate at 20:00 GMT.
Daily gens until at least 2430. Slowing down to M-W-F as soon a player requests this after the given year. After 2480, if a player requests it, the pace will slow down to Monday - Thursday. The game will not slow down further unless all remaining players unanimously vote to do so.
Every player may request up to two turns to be dropped. After 2475, surviving players get an additional request.
If a player misses 3 turns in a row, the game will be put on hold. If no replacement for the player is found within 3 days, the player will be set to 'dead'.
Races:
CA - banned.
Factoryless HE - banned (i.e. factory settings must be 10/10/10 or better and population growth rate 10% or lower)
Joat may not take NAS.
Diplomacy:
Personally, I prefer 'no comms'-games, but since I won't be playing, I'll leave the decision to the players. Possible rules for diplomacy would be:
1) No comms. No communication with other players. All other races must be set to "Enemy" at all times. No alliances.
2) Everything goes. No rules at all regarding relationship with other players. No pre-game alliances though - I'd consider that cheating.
3) Something in between. This could be any kind of restriction (not more than X players in an alliance; alliances must be publicly announced; alliances are determined by chance - nearest neighbour; etc.)
Please indicate your choice by replying to this thread. Please do not flood this thread with suggestions for 3) - I will be opening a separate thread for that discussion in "The Bar" presently.
Conditions of victory:
PPS will be turned on no sooner than 2500 if a player owns more than 33% of all planets. All active players will then vote. The victor is declared if all active players vote for him.
(If Platon, the winner of "Once More", should not be winner of this game, the votes will be recounted and checked and audited until he is. I have a contract with the CyberNinjas.)
Cheats:
As before, I will gladly make use of the work magic9mushroom has put into a very comprehensive list of cheats and his extremely sensible stance on permitting or banning them. Please check his post for Once More: https://starsautohost.org/sahforum2/index.php?t=msg&th=5 646&start=0&rid=1927
Race files:
Please send an email with the race file to ludiUNDERSCOREmagisterATwebDOTde. Please do not put a password on the file.
Cheers,
Matt

I'm interested too.
No (private) comms, everyone set to enemy, but you can still send in game messages addressed to everyone

torben wrote on Tue, 28 September 2021 16:21One more question, could we go for only one gen during the weekend, I'm not sure if I can accomodate two gens on the weekend all the time. If this is not agreeable on all, I'll live with it
Sorry for asking this late, guess I haven't read the announcement careful enough...
Hi Torben,
I've also had a request to speed the first turns up by going to a 24 hour schedule. But it's not my call, the players should decide. I'm setting up a poll. Majority decision. If there should be a tie, the schedule stays as announced.
Cheers,
Matt

Torben, the first 30 turns will have mostly very fast turns anyway, so I guess you will manage to squeeze in a few minutes a day, and then we will have a slowdown.
Yeah, that's true, just sometimes live cat get a bit chaotic with two kids at home, which is why I asked. Our weekends are quit full often. But hey, that's what makes life interesting. Guess the more relaxed turn scheme is also a psychological anti-stress-thinking
The 24h gen variant isn't bad either though as it makes things more flexible, quite a few times that gave me two-turns-in-a-row basically ...

What about a compromise: We agree on a 36h schedule for the first X turns. If we are all fast we get more than a turn a day and if someone is really busy he has some flexibility?
How many races are in by now?
