There has been some discussion in the bar about a new game for beginners, so I thought I would start one.
Players must be beginners, less than 3 games against humans. If we can't get enough players with this restriction, we will allow more experienced players with a handicap.
Game settings are as follows:
- Distant players position
- AccBBS
- random events on
Standard cheat disclaimer, which means that the following cheats are allowed:
- chaff
- split fleet dodge
- merge fleets after gating
- Mine damage dodge
- CA Banned, all other races are ok.
Turns would be MTWTF until 2430 or someone requests a slow down. From there they would be MWF.
PPS would be turned on at 2430, unless everyone else wants it off.
Number of players is anywhere from 4 - 16. The more players sign up, the larger the universe. We will aim for about 30 planets per player. Host is not playing.

I have some friends who have never played that I will try to convince to join. I think I have about 4 different game keys in total that I was hoping to use for a small LAN/Hotseat party setup about 12 years ago that sadly fell through. I'll keep you posted either way and will eagerly await hearing back from anyone else that may be interested!

I'm currently playing through a duel with Niel and he is helping me see how much learning I still have to go through to go from "beginner" to "intermediate." I'll keep you posted if I do any other new games in the meantime.
That being said thank you greatly VManuel for joining in! And with a Super-Nerf even! Hopefully you friends will be interested in joining and we can possibly get this show on the road. Not entirely sure what race that I'll want to dive into. I imagine that will depend on how many players we get and what size galaxy we all will be contending with.

Glad to have you on board! If you haven't already check out the wiki.starsautohost.com as well as the Strategy Guide uploaded there. Either way I'll be excited to see this game take off soon!

Well, from my hosting experience with the Fledgling Admirals series I'd say it is nay impossible to put restrictions on vmanuel and ccmaster vs beginners. Either the beginners have no chance or the restrictions would be so harsh that it doesn't allow for a somehow normal stars game but the experienced are forced to a very strange approach which leads to a "wrong" example how to play stars.
Nevertheless it is not always bad to have experienced and new players in the same game IF
a) every experienced player must ally with one beginner
and
b) the experienced players are willing to put as much effort into communication as the beginners reading up on strat articles and learning... resulting in a very steep and often enough learning curve.
I was always astonished how fast new players in the Fledgling Admiral series were able to jump from beginner to intermediate in just one game when they got some directions towards the wealth of existing articles... this wealth is a bit (too) overwhelming if a beginner needs to work through it completly on his own but teamed up...
And don't make a too big and long game for beginners. A small one lasts already long enough.
What about the following setup:
Size: small sized universe
* dense for 6 players
* packed for 8 players
And to concentrate on the game mechanics and not on diplomacy:
* Alliance of 2 players, no more, no less can win the game (last alliance standing or unanimous vote of remaining players)
* only tech exchange with ally
* only ally set to friend, all other set to enemy
* all battle orders must be set at "attack who = enemies"
PRT restrictions:
* beginners may not play PP or AR
* experienced may not play CA, JoaT (additionally ccmaster may not play HE, Altruist not IT)
* if you want to throw in another 100 leftover pts in the race wizard set to defenses for the experienced, that's ok... more and you get weird race designs
If you need another experienced player, I'd play as well... and would be also willing to communicate with beginner ally (much more fun this way anyway if you have another eager crazy person in the universe to ramble about strat & tact).
Great would be if the host is not playing and willing to give some feedback and hints to the beginners about their sent in reace designs to avoid too obvious errors and to allow them some changes. No need to create a completly balanced universe, to cope with strange starting positions is part of the game but it would be helpful if
a) the starting positions allowed somehow for newbies and experienced to team up
or
b) at the start of the game the host gives (only) to the newbies the coordination of all experienced players and then they can decide what to do with it.

Hi ,
if Altruist is playing I will not take so a hard handycap for me.
I have already played some Mentor games but for a Mentor game I have not the time.

Honestly I'd just be happy to be in any game at all. I've got a Race design to keep in mind and ready to submit, though I know we are all still waiting for others to chime in. I've got two duels in the works atm and this will be my "third" game. Still not an expert by any stretch of the imagination or intermediate for that matter. LoL
