I will be looking for a new game to play or host soon. My personal preferences are for no-comms or team no-comms; remapped to circle with players roughly equidistant; no CA, PP, or IT; IS a little nerfed, and Joat a lot nerfed; no ACC BBS, slow tech advance, weapons expensive, construction not cheap; players start with a cache of ~42 scrappers (DNA Scanner, Beam Deflector, RadRam FFs for chance of up to level 6 in all techs); with as close to 32.5 stars per player and density nearest to dense after remap (2.5-2.55/10kly^2).

Very interesting.
Looks like you want a long game with a slow econ start but an early tech boost.
What kind of turn schedule do you prefer?
Why no PP? Are they too strong in this type of game?

I say no IT and no PP because second worlds throw a wrench in the works for remapping. IT also banned because way too OP in a long game. No ACC BBS helps AR and HE to diversify races. Joat should not be allowed to take NAS, but should have to pay a cost equal to the boost they would have got if they did (eg ~60 points set to defense) and only ~66% scrappers. IS should probably get something like 25 points set to defense and 75-80% scrappers. If a race takes NRSE, their scrappers get DDL7s instead of RadRams.
This is the kind of game I would like to host; I might not have the time I would want to put in playing a game for the next season, but I can commit to the time required for monitering and maintanance duty of hosting. I would love to play this type of game, but hosting is almost as good IMO.
I think daily turns, or max 22 hours are best practice for the first 2-3 weeks (3 weeks @ 22hour max = ~23 gens or the equivalent of ~2412 in ACC BBS standards). At that point a fixed non-strict (meaning everybody in causes a gen) schedule of M, T, W, Th, F around 7pm PST (1am GMT T, W, Th, F, Sa after BST ends). Once we have more than 3 players with >15k Res, or a cumulative total of 20 cap ships on the board, vote can be called for reducing to 3 times per week. IMO, the best games have gone daily for as long as possible, and I have played maybe a dozen non-blitz that kept daily gens through 2500 and beyond. But I know not everybody can make that commitment, so the compromise. Having no-comms or 2 player team no-comms hugely reduces the potential time requirements involved.

I like the setup with slow tech and expensive weapons. The scrappers are an interesting twist. DNA Scanner ships might be used for another purpose. Not sure if that is your intention. I would be interested if it went the the no-comms route.

I am definitely leaning strongly toward no comms; either no comms free for all or a no comms team game (where teams of two players can communicate, tech trade, whatever). In either case I would expect all other players (excepting a team mate if team game) set to enemy.
Up for discussion is the point of when to make scores public. 2465? This wouldn't use the public player scores option, but the victory conditions.
Feel free to pm me with ideas if you want to stay anonymous for a no comms game (preferred).
If you are interested in a team no comms game, let me know if you want me to set you up with a potential partner.

@asmodai - Heh...
(retracted) (Edit - Game host wants me to remove a reference to a race design.)
We should be discussing if HE races are over-powered, if we are nerfing a number of other races.
MagicMushroom would be the best bet to weigh in with his observations.
------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------------------------------------------
My other worry is that having a non-abbs start and slow tech means that we'll have a number of players who'll drop due to increased MM in mid/later stages or we'll have a lot of slowdowns.
------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------------------------------------------
I would like a game with limited comms. Either allow comms till 2425/30 to let 2 player teams form, or allow NAP/treaties/trading.
------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------------------------------------------
A few suggestions.
1. The host should vet the race designs and suggest changes to broken(?) races.
If the player has a well thought out balance for the race or if he still wants to play the broken race, that's upto him... but atleast the host would have done his due diligence.
2. Keep a pool of 2-3 replacement players in case of player drops.
Even if the race is a dead race, generally the races can still mount a defence that slows down the other neighbours from rushing in and taking over the space.
3. Keep the momentum of the game steady, without too many breaks.

What is the planned start for this game?
If it's not fitting my schedule, I'll join another game.

Few thoughts:
Quote:begins working feverishly on ultra AR race slowtech is AR killer. That makes another race banned - AR, IT, PP, CA. 2 races handicapped. 2 races(WM,SS) have their technology advantage neutralized by acces to scraps that can make things even.
Quote:We should be discussing if HE races are over-powered, if we are nerfing a number of other races.
MagicMushroom would be the best bet to weigh in with his observations. I remember this issue from lowtek, but i think that diplomacy, not monstrous eco of HE spoiled that game. I agree, that proper design of HE, in no comm game in dense/distant galaxy will be difficult to counter.
I`m opting for no team game.

given the above that means the only untouched race would be SD??
does anybody want an all SD game? likely not
maybe ease back the restrictions a bit?

AR is not banned, and is still highly viable in this scenario. Joat and IS are nerfed because they are OP to begin with. WM and SS advantages are not solely in their starting tech levels (those are the least of their advantages). My suggestions taken together make for a relatively even field for all 7 PRT.

Adam's case is overstated. I have seen mighty AR empires in slow tech games. With the benefit of no AccBBS, a skilled AR player can do just fine. The kvetches about WM and SS are largely without merit, as the prescribed scrapping does not favor any PRT over another. Also, Con is much more important for unlocking WM potential, while Prop can be integral for SS growth and security; they stand to benefit from scrap as much as anyone (except AR maybe). My PRT is host.

Quote:Adam's case is overstated. Maybe. If i overstated or generalized too much, sorry for that. I`m aware, that AR resource output is not wholy dependant on energy - but it is still 30% of eco that is more costly, so it is handicap. That`s all. if someone have experience with AR enough to make competitive race, no problem with that.

Good points. This setup gives AR an early advantage and a later hurdle; it favors a faster AR with wider habs. Of course an AR would have a better time of it in a team game, and the teammate would not have to pickup quite so much slack early on.
