Ladies and Gents
I am interested to know if anybody would play an AR only game.
Feels like AR gets no love around here and I like them
They tend to be late bloomers but then dynamite
The obvious restriction I can think of is the "No target base"
Other than that I am open to just about any race, would love to see how the different perceptives of how to run AR
I prefer large/huge maps with decent spacing

I'd be interested, too. AR is a race that has its merits, and can be deadly dangerous if played well.
Large universe of medium density for 6-8 players seems reasonable enough. For more, upgrade to huge universe.
Of course, "Kill Starbase" order would be banned.

10 players in a medium dense is considered "slow". 6 in a large normal is a crawl - you'll be playing for several dozen turns before borders start to form, let alone actual wars.
I was thinking 6-8 in a huge "sparse" uni with ~50 planets per

something like this, where each circle the stars get more dense until you get to the center where they are more packed and the outside near the HWs are lighter/further apart ??
the nature of AR lends itself to a "slower" pace, at least in the beginning
thus i would like a faster schedule for the first 20-50 turns depending, then down to maybe 3 per week when somebody cries uncle?
"Kill Starbase" order would be banned
Victory conditions:
Single-victory with highest score at 2600 or earlier with remaining players' consensus.
Game parameters:
- Max Minerals off
- Slow tech off
- AccBBS off / on ??
- Random events ON
- Public scores off
- Galaxy clumping off
Standard cheats disclaimer
Only split-fleet-dodge, repair-after-gating and chaff is allowed.
In disputed cases has game host the final word and can apply any punishment he deems fit.

You miss my point. You're looking at at least a year to finish this size of game, and that's if you keep up 3 turns a week; that becomes rather difficult when you have 50-planet empires at war over thousands of square LY. Most people aren't willing to sign up for that kind of time investment.
Why do you need such a huge uni, anyway? AR likes space when fighting non-AR, but here there are no non-ARs. The beauty of this sort of game is that you can screw around with the parameters to make races fight in unusual conditions. RWIAB did this by placing a pile of -f races in a uni that's too big for -fs to be viable against +fs - but it didn't matter since *everyone* was -f.
ok, i would like to get the most interest out of people, so what would you recommend as the largest feasible?

This would change the game for other races as well, Starbases would be able to defend planets for a little longer, possibly until the BB era. It would be an interesting variation, not just to help AR. All races would be able to defend easier in the early game.
If this is applied across all of them, the Fort / Dock / SB / US / Death Star
then at each stage it would be a lot more survivable
i think this change alone could make the AR slightly more viable AND it wouldn't be unbalanced because all other races get it too
I am currently running an AI game with this modification, 15 AIs w/AI form alliances
gonna build like 10 worlds, turtle up and see what happens

Then the host would need to run and mail game files manually. Autohost doesn't support edited game files.
BR, Iztok
yeah that is a bit of a problem
having more than 4 people in the game would make this a very time consuming process, especially in the early game turns
later on when the game slows down then it wouldn't be so bad.
I understand Ron's policy on edited games, but dang that would be way more convenient

Otherwise, we can do without the enhanced starbases, surely?
If the game is all AR then sure no modification needed.
I was just spitballing ideas on how to make AR viable in a general game.
I have been running a modded game for a little bit now, and so far the results are promising.
it is only against AIs mind you but i have been hit by decent early attack fleets and without support ships my stations held up pretty well. only lost 1 so far. just got to the ultra stations, next battle should be interesting.
