dlrichert piqued my curiosity.. I was planning to try out the challenge on Sunday, but I decided to see how easy it is for an IT OWW.
7588 in case one does spend 5 mins to make a few changes along the way.
I'm pretty sure if I gen enough seeds, I'll get a good breeder next to my starting position.
I could then easily get the 11k CC was talking about... but it didn't feel fair though.
So I then spent 1.5 hours on regular race variants (IT,AR,CA).
I got 3729, 3457 and 3744..
Bah..

5th try: 9778 resources with 3 planets. Could be more if I had a clou how to get more pop until 2420.

3700-4500 is a good score for a valid race (or even a semi-valid race).
The 8-12k scores are (probably) broken races that focus on a OneWorldWonder concept and getting lucky with the universe to get a few good planets near the starting HW.
I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.
I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.Report message to a moderator

I guess I don't understandwhat "best econ settings" entail . I tried with better per-pop resources, but found it gave insufficient growth. What I tested now:
IT
NAS/OBRM/CE/NRSE
Worst hab (still centered, could squeeze some points there I guess)
20% growth
1:1000
15/6/25 G
10/3/10
Maybe I should go for 1:900 and slightly worse factories?
Anyway, I decided to not play the regen game for minerals and used max minerals (I know that disqualifies the attempt, but I first need to get near 10k anyway ). Second regen gave me incredible luck with a 100% second world. Set research to 0, max factories / max mines, genned 20 turns: 7457 resources.
I guess I could try a bit of MM by making one of the worlds a breeder, but I doubt that that would have significant effect (edit: 7514 balancing with 2 privs, 7562 balancing with the mayflower and two swashbucler runs - this clearly is not going to make major gains)

I do actually:
World 1: pop 850, 2115 / 2115 factories, prod 4019
World 2: pop 767, 1781 / 1917 factories, prod 3438
In order to get 10k prod, you need quite a lot of factories and/or good pop productivity. Let's assume that we have 1.75M pop, this gives options
pop 1:1000: 1750 from pop = 8250 from factories = 5500 factories @ 15/10 = 36 factories per 1000 colonists (= impossible)
pop 1:700: ~2150 from pop = 7850 from factories = ~5200 factories @ 15/10 = ~34 factories per 1000 colonists (= impossible)
So, to get to 10k you need more pop, which I don't think is really possible on two worlds. But is it enough if we fill both to the brim?
2.2Mpop @ 1:700 = 3142, 2.2M * 25 / 10k = 5500 factories @ 15/10 = 8250k --> total prod 11392. However, even with hab at worst (1:171 ) you need to increase factory costs and reduce mines to 7/12/5 to pay for the 1:700, which probably means running out of G before building all those factories. Also, you need to maintain a 14.5% growth rate to get 2.2M people, which means keeping people on freighters, which ruins factory production.
I tried using a breeder pattern (shipping from homeworld to 2 until both at 25%, then shipping from 2 back to home to keep 2 on 33%. This resulted in 1.1M/535k so not much better than just letting them grow on their own.
In other words, I'm at a loss how to achieve better than say 8k on two worlds.
