First up a seemingly definitive resource:

Says that for four players the board should have one player in each corner.

But I've just seen this:

I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.
I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.

I still wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the default order of one of the participant could have been altered so it doesn't show "attack enemies" and instead show a custom order.

Nobody should ever change their default order. It's part of a well known bug.

Default default order is actually "neutrals and enemies". Changing it to "enemies" seems reasonable at first glance.

Yeah, maybe. But even then it might have strange repercussions. There is a well documented bug coming out from messing with the default battle orders.

It's well known by old timers but it is always important to repeat this once in a while for the newcomers. This is why I've broken my vow of silence on this board to mention it. I think it is that important.

I guess Eagle of Fire refers to the "Starbase Friendly Fire"-bug, see Known Bugs (JRC3) - Player Exploitable Bugs / "Features" and either scroll down or search for "Starbase Friendly Fire".

But I am quite sure that the incident described above by XAPBob is NOT the "Starbase Friendly Fire"-bug. The latter is about a target bug, XAPBob's description and by others are about a placement bug.

More justifiable would be to ask for a regen I feel... Unless you did it repeatedly...

what if a MT is there in the map?

Also there are a few battles that can go another way, with no change in battle orders.

Not to mention that their are a number of other instances when a regen will cause a different result (mine field travel, over-gating, etc)
