Hi,
No luck. The only other alternative would be getting Wumpus or just working out a percent penalty for SS .

I don't think it represents enough research value to really worry about - with so much pop to start with, gaining those tech levels the "honest" way would be trivial.

But it would get Con4 - which is a year away for most players, and is important wrt ship building etc.

5%/10% penalty for SS (compared with JoAT/IT penalties for instant docks)

Races with me by Christmas please.

To obviate the need to ban or penalize SS, is the following possible with StarsEd?

1) Edit the .exe so that the needed starting ship hulls and components have no tech requirements
2) Perform the first part of the jump start with the modified .exe. The master race builds the needed ships and performs no research.
3) After master race has constructed all necessary ships, generate subsequent turns with unmodified .exe. Master race still performs no research.
4) Game "goes live" with unmodified .exe.

If you can demonstrate it to me then I'll happily do it.

One advantage being that it doesn't drastically affect race design in. The way that a points penalty would

My StarsEd skills are rather rusty. I recall that there can be some complications when switching a game from a modified exe back to the unmodified. I don't know if any of those complications would thwart this approach.

If anyone with more StarsEd chops would like to vet this idea, let us know, please.

Otherwise, I'll give it a shot.

Small Dense would be 160 planets, with 9 players that's about 18(17.7) planets per player, 16 each with ten

Sm/De is 160 planets in 640 k ly^2.
Me/Sp is 216 planets in 1440 k ly^2.

I'd vote for Medium/Sparse. A third more planets and 50% more distance between players (on average).

At Sm/De each planet has 5.22 planets within one warp 9 jump on average for Med/Sp it's 3.13.

Count me as a vote for small dense.

Not to beat an apparently dead horse to death, but I'm okay with small dense as well.
