I looked around and could not find the answer to this question(I do not have a functioning Help file). When overgating which gate is used to calculate the mass? I know, or think I know, that one of the gates is used to calculate the affect of distance overgating and the other is used for mass, but which is which?

[Note I'm correcting this post so I don't confuse any more people than I already have. I apologize for speaking without double checking my facts]

In calculating mass over-gating, you use both gates used for the jump. So if you have a 200KT ship going from a 100/250 to a 150/600, you would use the 100/250 to calculate damage (25%) and add an additional 6% for the 150/600 gate for a total 31%. This also contributes to your chance of ending up in the void (if you are not IT). For distance over-gating, only the sending gate is used to calculate damage and void losses.

In calculating mass over-gating, you use the smaller of the two gates used for the jump. So if you have a 200KT ship going from a 100/250 to a 150/600, you would use the 100/250 to calculate damage (25%) and also to calculate the chance of ending up in the void (if you are not IT).

Both the sending and the receiving gate are used to calculate mass overating damage. 200KT ship going from a 100/250 to a 150/600 will give different damage than 200KT ship going from a 100/250 to a 100/250. Razz

Sending gate only used for distance. (it decides how far you can "toss" the ship)

Both gates can inflict damage due to too much mass. (Both affect the size of the "hole" you're forcing the ship into/out of.)

Kind of an expansion to the question. I am not at home right now or I would test this out myself. Anyway, does sending a 200kt ship from a 100/250 gate to 150/600 gate yeild a different amount of damage then sending the same ship through the same gates but in the opposite direction?

I does not matter, the damage is the same.

Damage will be different only if you are sending them more then 250 lys, then sending from the 150/600 will give lower damage.
